I got this pack as a new school pack, so it has to handle a fair amount of weight in textbooks, and have good shoulder straps. The straps are a little hard when new, but break in pretty quickly. All of the compression straps are very adjustable, and the sternum and waist strap are all removable. The build quality is excellent, as well as the fit, although, as I have a pretty slim build, I feel the pack is a little too wide. It would great as a light weight daypack, but as I already have one, this is on school duty. All of the internal organization is well thought out, and I give it an 11/10 overall.
I tried out five or six day packs and kept coming back to this one. Well designed, comfortable and plenty of room for a days gear, be it a short hike or a trek to the office. This is my every day pack, it is well padded and feels good on the back and is as sturdy and well built as any Patagonia product. The pulls are a little dainty for my taste so I cut and tied some paracord for a better grip. Good pack for the price.
We use this as a diaper bag for our 2 kids. It's easy to carry, lots of pockets and very durable. It is easy to clean and holds up well. I did have a problem with the zipper lining fraying and unraveling, so I took it back and they gave me a new one. This one is holding up well.
I couldn't be happier with this choice. It was a gift for my husband, but I wanted to keep it. I went with the grey with the orange accents and it was true to color, and just the right amount of color for its purpose. My brother has literally travelled the world and he was somewhat angry when he saw this bag, because it wasn't for him. All the pockets are awesome! Two small pockets, one soft, are handier than you might realize. The front "school supply" organizer is laid out really nicely. Since it's Patagonia, I feel this goes without saying, but the quality is top notch and I predict it will never fail on us. Would be a great backpack for anything from school to hiking the world.
I ordered this back pack 6 months ago and this little guy has survived and thrived through all of my costa rican adventures, a Michigan winter, a drunken St. Patrick's day, countless flights and cross-country travels. If you're the person who is always breaking or spilling things, Chacabuco is the one... durable and dependable. Perfect for those traveling light, taking weekend trips, or students carrying heavy loads. This spacious pack has pocket game; thoughtfully organized, aesthetic appeal, and just the right amount of division where things don't get lost. AND our friends at Patagonia always keep you looking fresh.
"Nice Quality, Zipper Color is Different"
Right out of the bag, the quality is great. very nice stitching. Cool feature with the clip on the shock cord which will make it easier to use. I got the Channel Blue and on the picture it shows black or grey zippers. They are actually red. Bright red. I love the contrasting look, but if you think you're getting black you'll be wrong, at least in my case.
This pack is exactly what I wanted. It is not too large but it has sufficiently storage for all sorts of gear. I typically use it for school-related purposes, such as carrying books, computer, ipod, coffee, etc. I have used it outdoors a few times and it has performed very well. The material is very lightweight but also solid. One of my favorite aspects of this bag is the color - the green stands out so much and really looks distinctive. Buy it and you will love it.
I go to Boston College and use this backpack everyday for class. I can fit all of my books and notebooks, and never have to worry about the safety of my laptop as the pocket is raised off of the ground and highly protected. It protects its contents from rain and hard Boston winters, and keeps them dry. I have never even come close to running out of room with this pack, even as it serves as my primary travel bag for weekend trips home.
I got this to replace my old daypack and am very happy with it. It's nicely padded, very comfortable, the TWO top pockets are great for holding a cellphone, wallet, keys, etc and the side pockets are tall enough to securely hold water bottles. My only complaint is the zipper pulls are a little small, but you can attach larger ones to the zipper on the main compartment.
