The Patagonia Black Hole 60L Duffel is a travel duffel that will protect your gear from bumps, bruises, and moisture. At 60 liters, this decent sized hauler is just what you'll need for a weekend to week long adventure, as long as you're mindfully packing on those longer trips. It all starts with the incredibly tough, 900D polyester ripstop with TPU laminate, which is also finished with a durable water repellent. It stands up to abuse from baggage handlers and turnstiles and is also highly weatherproof. The u-shaped zipper opens up to a whole bunch of space for you to jam-pack your clothing into, and there is even interior compression straps so you can do stuff in that extra fleece that you just HAVE to bring. Under the lid are two mesh zippered pockets for small items like toiletries and the side has a zippered pocket as well. On the exterior is a single zip stash pocket, daisy chains for lashing extra gear, and plenty of haul handles. My favorite parts of this bag are the removable shoulder straps for backpack-style carry and the fact that when your trip is over, the whole bag stuffs into its own pocket. Easy storage under the bed until the next trip rolls around.
FEATURES of the Patagonia Black Hole 60L Duffel
Carry with handle or haul handles; four corner-mounted webbing daisy chains facilitate hauling and tying down big loads
U-shaped lid provides easy access to the main compartment; zippered exterior pocket; two zippered internal mesh pockets
Bottom padded with foam to protect contents
Burly polyester ripstop with highly weatherproof TPU laminate and a DWR finish
Large opening to main compartment, zippered side pocket, mesh pockets in lid; stuffs into its own pocket for easy storage
Padded, removable shoulder strap and reinforced haul handles for easy carrying
Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Perfect for the light travelerMy wife and daughter staunchly refused to let me buy them new duffel bags, and since I often ended up carrying all of our bags, I decided it was time to get bags that were easy to pack and also easy to carry. I checked Outdoor Gear Lab and found the Patagonia Black Hole Duffel to be very highly ranked. With detachable backpack straps, and compression straps, as well as a "d-shaped" opening, this bag had everything. We recently took a trip to the Sierras (Mono Hot Springs) and the bags functioned perfectly. Mexico is next, and the bags hold large swim fins easily. And, I'll be able to haul all three of our bags if necessary using the back pack straps.

Good Duffle- Could use a couple changesAs with all Patagonia products, these duffels are made to last, that said however, the newer ones do not seem to be as strong as previous models. Where Patagonia has improved, though, is in the exterior of the pack. the shoulder straps are comfortable (for a duffle bag), there are plenty of lash point and loops for tools (Used in boat), carabineers, and securing it to a myriad of different things. Inside of the pack, one finds a gaping interior, however, I do find the lid's opening to be a bit small for access of the interior. The cavernous interior is great for large items, but for my uses it could use more dividers and organization. Overall a great product from Patagonia, but not quite perfect yet.

Awesome bagI ultimately purchased this bag for an upcoming two-week trip to Japan. I haven't used it yet but my initial impression is that this is a solidly built bag and the size (60L) seems perfect. It seems big enough to hold what I need, but small enough to fit in the overhead bin of a plane/train. I also really like the Kelp Forest coloring. It stands out more than the usual black duffel while being more subtle than some of the other colors. The handles all feel very sturdy, stitching is solid, and I really like the easily removable backpack straps.

Best Duffel for Short TripsThis is by far the best duffel I've found and is perfect for shorter trips. It is durrable and fairly water resistant which is by far the best part about this bag. Mine has withstood a great deal of abuse including everything from rough airport baggage handlers to actually dropping it off a cliff in Maine (don't ask - clearly wasn't my brightest moment). The loops on the side are a nice added feature for either securing small items to your bag or securing your bag to vehicles as you travel. The few interior pockets are nice as well, but I'm glad they haven't gone overboard with dividers and compartments as I prefer the larger open area. The straps are also incredibly comfortable and don't dig into your shoulders like I've experienced with other brands.

This Puts Gym Bags to Shame!!!I received this bag as a gift and man is it a gift that keeps on giving! I have used this thing many times for different purposes, from simply carrying clothes, to being my equipment bag on climbing trips, to being my go to gym bag for carrying all of my athletic equipment to track meets and it has never disappointed me. While the bag is not "waterproof" its water resistance is nothing to be taken lightly, I've come back from a track practice completely soaked but the contents of this bag were dry even after the truck ride from the throwing rings to my dorm. The interior pocket is vast and easily accessible while the smaller pockets make keeping things like my electronics and chargers easily accessible. This bag is SUPER strong, I personally had almost 80lbs in it at one point at an indoor track meet, holding two 35lb indoor weights, throwing shoes, lifting belt, and extra clothing with ease. The backpack straps swap on and off with ease and are very comfortable as far as duffel bags go. My only complaint is that the entire bag is not coated with the same material as the top because if water could get in anywhere I feel that it would be either though the zippers or soaked through the bottom, but since this hasn't happened to me yet I can't really complain. Overall I expect to still be using this bag for decades to come without fail.

“STAFF REVIEW”I bought this right before I went on a long trip to Gabon, Africa. I carried all of my belongings, camping stuff, clothing, and then the items that I bought while I was there. I didn't want to bring my backpacking pack because ease of access. I now use this bag on every adventure I go on, no matter what. I love it. Its triples as a climbing bag, a hiking day pack and mostly I use it as a plate.

My go to camping duffelThe bag works great for me as a 2 or 3 day summer duffel. The best feature is the out material. It is so easy to clean and doesn't absorb dirt and dust. It actually makes a big difference that I didn't really consider before purchase. Only thing that could be better would be adding some side pockets for sandals and such. The only extra pockets are too small for something like sandals.

Built incredibly toughI own multiple black hole duffel bags. These things are really tough! Features like the dual straps or backpack carry make it easy to lug around. The 60L is a perfect weekend bag, and most airlines accept it as a carry on. I won't travel without it!
Will this be good as a carry-on bag on the airplane?

Hiya! Carry on size limits can vary from airline to airline, so you would want to double check their limits to make sure this bag would work for you. The dimensions of the Patagonia Black Hole 60L Duffel are 23.5" x 11" x 13".
