I got this towel to hike the Inca Trail in Peru and wanted something compact and lightweight. It worked great for that and is now my go-to towel for showering at work after a run/workout. It's super absorbent, dries fast and packs tiny. I am 5'6", 130 pounds and I have a medium it's the perfect size to dry myself and my long hair. If my hair wasn't so long the small size probably would've been sufficient.
The Packtowl Ultralight is a good towel for the back country. It seems to absorb quite a bit of water (so it dries the body efficiently) and also wrings out okay if you saturate it. The dry time is okay, but it's not instant. If you hang it overnight in the tent, it works better in colder places than leaving it out. Its not bulky, the profile is quite thin, which is a bonus for the pack. Don't expect plush - it's not. But it does what it is supposed to. I bought the XXXL, then cut it down so it also doubles as a face towel and an absorbent rag for my first aid kit. Since the material doesn't fray, it worked out well and fairly economical.
I've had this towel about a year now and am amazed how well it works each time I use it. I'm 6'2 and about 200 lbs, the large dries me off easily and I feel the medium may have even worked, although still happy I got the large. It dries much, much faster than a standard towel. I've not timed it but come warm weather that may be something I geek out and do. Packs up small and light, a must have in my opinion.
I think this towel is fantastic. I bought it because we are planning a back packing trip to Asia and I wanted to get used to a ultralight type towel. It has been a great experience. The towel dries super quickly (about 4 hours inside my office building) and it folds up small. This really takes the trouble out of showering at a gym that doesn't have towel service. It seems like I only have to wash it every couple of weeks. I don't know if that is the quick drying abilities or me not using the gym enough. If you are done with stinky, bulky towels then switch to this great travel towel.
"Great towel, super light, wash/rinse it before you use it!"
I use this towel for backpacking and yoga. I love the towel as it is super light and dries very quickly. I would caution you however to wash/rinse this towel several times before you use it as the blue color bled out really bad after my first few uses. Kind of embarrassing at the yoga studio when you turn the sink completely blue as you rinse your towel.
I bought the biggest one they had for a safari with my wife. Obviously it doesn't get you as dry as your big fluffy towel at home, but if you are packing light, this thing is awesome. It drys really quickly after you wring it out so it prevents a funking smelling pack at the end of a tripI'd totally buy it again.
My daughter and I use these for backpacking all year. Whether we are toweling off after a river bath or washing the dishes this towel performs excellently. Just wring it out and hang it (from a tree or on your pack) and it dries in a matter of minutes. We now own 4 and they are all still going strong.
