"Great piece of gear for cold-weather backcountry exploits." 08/02/11
I bought this because I was tired of my water freezing in the backcountry in Colorado. It's lightweight, and gets the job done - keeping my beverages warm and liquid. The other option is to carry a metal insulated thermos, but in my opinion that's just too heavy and cumbersome to be carrying around. Another good feature is that the loop to connect it to your belt is velcro - so you don't have to fiddle with taking your belt off to loop it through.
"Keeps warm for 3 hrs, only fits wide-mouth Nalgenes" 03/30/11
I took this bottle parka with me to Maine in the dead of winter (-10 degrees) and the parka retained the liquid's heat for about 3 hours then it was back at air temperature. Fits snugly around Nalgenes which is good for heat. One thing that brings it down a notch is the room for the cap. You really have to work the strap that connects the cap to the bottle in there to close it. Also this bottle parka seems to only work for wide-mouth Nalgenes. Don't try to use it for anything else or it won't fit! But if you understand this, then it's a great and essential piece of equipment.
"Kept our water from freezing on Kili" 12/03/10
Long after our Camelbaks had frozen from the minus 10 degree weather, the water in our OR parkas was still warm and drinkable. The parka fit our Moosejaw bottles but was snug making it difficult to put back in with heavy gloves(taking it out was easy, just pull the loop). Zipping and unzipping the parka was surprisingly easy and the Velcro strap made it easy to attach in an accessible spot. The insulation was overkill for what we needed and would likely work in far more extreme conditions.
"Works well" 08/20/10
This works well. Among the zippered bottle parkas, it is definitely better than those cheap knock-offs. You may want to check out Feathered Friends for their parkas...no zippers to break or fiddle with when you open it, plus a bit lighter.
"Brilliant piece of kit. Light, useful and does exactly what it is supposed to." 03/13/10
I still can't figure out why OR are the only people that seem to make a really decent range of 'parkas' for Nalgene bottles and the like. And they do it well. They have a 2" wide webbing strap with velcro fastening which runs the length of the back side of the 'parka', which you can use as a handle if you have big gloves on, and allows you to attach the bottle to your pack hipbelt. As they are essentially foam and a zip, they are incredibly light. I always clean the bottle and leave it stored with it in and the lid/parka cover open as without it, I'd worry that it would get crushed and deform.
"Great piece of gear for cold weather" 03/02/10
Great and necessary piece of gear for winter camping, snowshoeing and winter climbing. Velcro loop attaches easily to the waist belt of your pack freeing up side pockets and keeping your hydration easily with in reach. Kept my water from freezing after 12+ hours in single digit temps.
"A seriously good piece of kit." 02/05/10
Stops your water from freezing in extended trips even in very cold weather. It does add bulk to the bottle, but comes with a 'double-back' 50mm wide velcro tab which allows it to fit securely onto the padded belt of my Lowe Alpine pack, so keeps it handy (knowing human nature, always a plus point with your water source) without taking up valuable room inside a side pouch. The Nalgene bottle fitted snug - no rattling (which personally would drive me mad (Ed: Madder!), yet not to tight that you can't pull it out and push it back in easily it you don't want to drink from the bottle whilst inside the parka (which is also possible, though it takes a little thought to avoid spills).
"You'll use it more than you may think." 05/13/09
Backpacking, climbing, trips in the car...this little item never gets put away. On backpacking trips I boil water at night for dinner and fill this with hot water for my morning coffee. Same in the morning after breakfast, I keep water hot for instant hot chocolate to drink while my stove warms up at dinner time. When I climb mountains like Raineir, it's obviously great at keeping my drinking water from being crazy cold. I also use it for a soup thermos at work. It doesn't work as well as a metal thermos, but in the backcountry there are more significant things to complain about.
