The Men's Southback Gloves by Outdoor Research. A Gore-Tex liner and lighter insulation across the leather palms give this glove excellent tactile feel on your pole grips and bomber durability. The mid-length gauntlet is big enough to fit over your jacket cuff, or the DuoCinch closure can easily compress it enough to fit under your cuff. A soft wipe on the thumb works as a great chamois for your goggles when the "powder" has PNW water content, and the idiot cords keep you from skiing the bumps under the lift instead of the powder off the backside.

DECENT FEATURES of the Outdoor Research Men's Southback Gloves

"I like turtles"  02/10/12

These gloves fit like, well, a glove! So glad they did because I hate shipping back and forth. Overall, these are great gloves for snow and cold. I tested them out while building an igloo for 8 hours after getting a nice 22" of powder on the front lawn. I took them off and my hands were literally steaming. I left the gloves off for about a half hour, until my hands got cold from the air temperature, and when I put them back on it took quite a while for my fingers warm up. But once I started working at the igloo again, they got hot again. No water got through them and I LOVE the idiot-proof strap for easy tightening. Good job OR!

"comfy cozy gloves"  02/10/12

These gloves keep my hands warm cross-country skiing, but they can get damp inside. I'm not sure how the Gore-tex compares to other membranes for breathability, but sweat seemed to stick around when wearing at temperatures just below freezing. But they are nice with a soft lining, DWR-treated nylon shell, and leather palm and fingers that give good grip. And they match my boots.

"Some loss of dexterity, but super warm"  11/12/11

These gloves worked great in windy, single digit temperatures. The gauntlet cinch was a hidden gem - I could tighten or loosen without taking a glove off. The fingers and palms are very durable from my snowboarding and outdoor work experience...definitely had stuff smash my hands. Caught them on sale, super worth it in my opinion.

"These gloves are good circling the lifts all day"  02/12/11

The glove is a good well made glove, after having about 5 days on them they work great and were warm on all but the coldest day. The gore tex insert works well and the breathabilty works just fine. the break in time is a few days long and the all leather palm has a good grip. I wouldn't say this is a spectacular glove but all around it works just fine for me so far.

"Warm gloves with a few cool features"  11/17/10

I use these gloves for snowboarding, and they are subject to powder and ice and bindings. It's hard to go wrong with Outdoor Research with Gore-tex, and I'm satisfied with my purchase. There are some cool features, such as the rope wrist straps and fabric loops making pulling them on easy with an already gloved hand. I'm not sure how my hand-dragging will burn out the leather, but for the price they are a solid purchase. Small details that could be better: (1) Tighter around the wrist (to keep the snow out). (2) Small pocket for electronic lift ticket.
