After rocking the 2008 version of this jacket for 4 years the 2012 model was bestowed as a Christmas gift, and strutting in the new version gets better with every wear. Direct comparison shows the new build has a slimmer cut, lighter fabrics and the minimalist-inspired construction peeps are seeking in a mid-weight synthetic insulating jacket. It kept me stoked while ripping trails on 28 degree days at Jackson Hole. Thumbs Up:Slim fit, lightweight, hi-tech "crinkly" fabric, double takes from the hatersThumbs Down: no reverse hem zipper, no flashy Après chick magnet effectSideways Thumbs: the collar liner....formerly shell material, it's now a flocked micro-something or other
I purchased this jacket alongside a MH Compressor and ultimately decided to keep the Neoplume due to the 30 denier material being used on the outside. The MH option used 15 and seemed far to fragile. After only 1 wash, as per the manufacturer's instructions my Neoplume developed a hole in the middle of one of the panels on the front. To my knowledge the jacket was not washed with any sharp or jagged edges. I could have duct taped the jacket up or sent it to OR for repair, but ultimately I decided to send it back and replace it with a fleece insulating layer which is a bit heavier, a bit bulkier, but a lot less fragile. Great piece of gear, just be cautious with excessive wear or washings.
My wife bought this for me last christmas and I love it. Its now on its second winter of keeping me warm in Alaska. I love the chest pocket for my Ipod. Im a medium in most sizes and this does fit me, but I could probably have been better off with a large for layering purposes, so you may want to buy a size up.
