"Only one left dry" 12/18/10
Spent 3 days trekking 56 miles in wind, rain, sleet, and snow and was the only one who was dry enough to finish. That said quite alot in itself about the quality of this jacket. In a large, it was a little big for me. I am 5'9" and 175-180 lbs depending on the time of year. The sleeves were a little long. The hood did wrap quite well, turned decently, and had plenty of room for a helmet. A backpack did not wear the shoulders in any way as some jackets do. This jacket may have been perfect if it were a size smaller.
"Great shell" 12/07/10
I bought this shell a few years ago and it gets the job done well. The OR mentor may not be the best in the world (I haven't tried them all) but i can guarantee you that it would be in the running. It is a very simple shell which is exactly what you need, yet it provides maximum protection when things get bad. I've used mine for skiing, mountaineering, backpacking, and hiking and have never been let down. The mentor is one great shell!
"Makes you a better everything" 11/29/10
I have had the OR Mentor for nearly 3 years now and it is still bombproof. This thing is amazing, it has seen me on backcountry ski trips in the tetons (too many to count), ice climbing in Hyalite canyon, hiking, mountain biking, and just wearing in front of the TV because it is just that cool. Once I got this jacket I swear I got better at all of the above and more. The pit zips (more like a poncho zip) are amazing and just right to help one cool down. Pockets are great for hats, goggles, skins, you name it. My only gripe is that you can see some wear on the inside where the avy beacon sits, but other than that this jacket has been the single best purchase I have ever made.
"Pricey but Nice" 08/30/10
Love the full length pit zips. The high pockets work great with a pack belt on. Everything is pretty good and best of all it is backed up by OR's awesome warranty, so you don't have to worry about what happens if you tear it.
