The most compressible storm shell is so light it practically floats, or at least it's so light that you won't notice you're carrying it until a sudden downpour bursts into your day. "Ultralight, Ultra-waterproof, Ultra-packable, Ultra-awesome" 03/06/12
Outdoor Research continues to impress with the product line. Though this jacket is ultralight, the material are tough and resilient. Packs down super small so you came throw it in your pack and not care that you brought it even if every day was sun shining. I'm 5'3" girl, 140#, athletic build with relatively wide shoulders. i purchased Men's small due to sale, trim fit makes this a perfect fit on me.Only downfall is that it doesn't have side pockets, but with a pack on or a climbing harness, it doesn't matter .... just stuff your things into your cargo pockets ...
"what is it good for?" 11/03/11
This jacket is pretty awesome. You have full seam tape, and an extremely lightweight design. To me, this is one of the best weight : waterproofness : cost ratios you can get in a jacket. yeah, you could probably find a jacket that weighs the same, and has the same waterproof rating, but the cost? you could probably search for a hundred years and it would still be the best choice. perfect for hiking, for walking around, backpacking, just going outside in the rain because you love the rain but dont want to get wet, or to wear when you are traveling around town. Its pretty warm and you wont overheat very easily. its got a really nice breathability to it.
"Weight saver that performs" 07/26/11
I've taken this on just about any outdoor activity I'm doing. It's light enough that I never notice it unless I want it. Super light, just one pocket (if that bothers you), and will always keep you dry.
"You'll never be tempted to leave it behind." 07/23/11
When you're traveling light, this rain shell's got your back without adding pounds to your pack! Sheds water, blocks wind, and stuffs into a nice little package (my mini trail pillow) when the deluge ends. Its a permanent fixture in both my commuter pack and back country kit. The fit is trim (not boxy) but still with enough room for a light insulating layer when traveling in colder climates. Great minimalist rain jacket!
"A nice piece to have on those days when you're just not sure of the weather" 06/10/11
This jacket is incredibly light and does a stand-up job of keeping you dry. Why blow $500 on a super-deluxe shell when you can get solid protection from this small piece? It's well worth the money and so easy to bring along. Only problems I have are that my arms get a bit clammy if I'm doing some strenuous activity while wearing the jacket, other than that it's fine. I'd rather have this, and the weight savings, than some monstrous pro-shell jacket.
"Awesome Jacket!! Super light and functional" 07/13/10
Great jacket. I throw it in my bag on most climbs and alpine routes. You can pack it down and clip it to your harness and throw it on at the belays or on the descent. Not super breathable when you are really moving, but a fantastic jacket all the same.
"Very lightweight, breathable, and stylish" 07/01/10
This jacket actually made me long for a good rainstorm! I was impressed with the quality right out of the box, and encouraged that the weight of the jacket did not feel suffocating like other rain jackets I've tried - I can always layer underneath it but wanted to make sure that this would be just as clutch in July as it is in October. The picture doesn't do the color scheme justice; Fossil is a nice gray and the trim color looks more red than in the picture and is pretty nifty.
