"Ultralight backpackers dream" 05/12/13
If you are like me, you don't go hiking when the weather forecast calls for three to four days of solid rain. Most the time you never take your rain gear out of your pack, so why lug around a 14 to 18 oz. jacket that's just dead weight. This jacket will keep you dry no matter the conditions. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but it only weighs 6.5 oz. It also doubles as a great wind breaker or for a little extra warmth. You just can't beat the light weight and the quality. Big ups!
"You'll forget you packed it." 04/09/13
This thing is light. It rocks when you're on the rocks and it comes with me anytime I think it might rain. I love the no frills design and helmet compatible hood. If you're looking for an "around town" shell look elsewhere. This thing belongs in the mountains where you have no real need for hand pockets. It packs to the size of a large orange and weights less than an anorexic chipmunk. Buy one. you won't be disappointed.
"Best lightweight rain shell" 07/02/12
This is an ultra-lightweight shell that will keep you dry when it's raining and pack down small when it's not. It is fully waterproofed and surprisingly breathable and features a well-fitted hood. This isn't a bomber shell. I don't take it if I'm going to be alpine climbing or winter backpacking (for that, I opt for the OR Mentor). That being said, the Helium II is the best shell on the market for ultralight and lightweight backpackers. It seems like it would also be a good one for sport climbers to throw in their pack in case rain hits. I haven't had it long enough to vouch for its durability (it feels tough), but it's an OR product so they will take it back if there are any problems.
