Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Better on the Market The bottom line is this: there really is nothing better on the market. From two feet of snow to thorny brush these things have honestly shed all I can throw at them. The strap on the bottom is built to last, the velcro on the front won't wear out quickly but is the high quality stuff that will last for-ev-er. The ability to tighten and secure around the base beats all other gaiters I've used or seen used. From dry mountain hikes with trail runners to winter hikes in snow these things keep out rocks, twigs, water, and anything else.,,,,Forget about anything cheap you may be looking at. Spend the extra dough here, you won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Are there any other gaiters to purchase? The quick answer to that question is, no! I have checked out a bunch of gaiters in lots of different stores, and by far the OR Expedition Crocodiles are the way to go. But don't take my word for it. Whenever you see mountaineering videos, pictures, or even when you are on the mountain, these guys are the most frequently seen gaiters around! Plus, there is good reason for this. The moment that you pick these guys up, you can tell that they are the most well built and long lasting gaiters around. I think that the Mountain Hardwear Pinnacle Stretch XT Gaiter is a close second, but these guys definitely win hands down.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from For the most part worked well, but took a lot of time and effort to put on, and let some snow in. These gaiters worked well in packed snow, but seemed to fail around the connection hook over the laces of my double-hiking boots when I got into soft/deep snow.,,,,I climbed Mt. Rainier in June, and on several occasions while wearing these gaiters, snow still got in my double mountaineering boots, and I was constantly struggling to dry out my socks and boot liners.,,,,These gaiters also took a while to put on every morning.,,,,To be fair, I am not sure if this is indicative of all gaiters, or just the OR versions because this is the only time I have ever used gaiters, so I don't have a great basis for comparison.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent heavy duty gaiter for expedition use The OR Expedition Crocs are just an extremely beefed up version of the regular OR Crocodile gaiters, and are sized a little bigger to accommodate plastic mountaineering boots. My large standard Crocs barely fit over my plastic boots, but the large Expedition Crocs fit easily. The Expeditions are heavy Cordura on the bottom and Gore-Tex on the uppers, just like the standard Crocs, but the entire inside half of the Expeditions (including the upper) is covered with Cordura for durability. Like the standard Crocs, the Expeditions have a 2-inch velcro closure in front, but the Expeditions add an additional Velcro security flap at the bottom. Unlike the standard Crocs, the bottom strap on the

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well designed product.. Worth the money This are good gaiters. These gaiters do what they are supposed to do, keep you dry. If you get warm during a climb, I found that folding them half way down helped regulate temp. The lower section, which is subject to the most abuse, is made with 1000d Cordura for toughness, and lined with packcloth to reduce abrasion between your leg covering and the Cordura. A nylon-supported rubber instep strap goes around the bottom of your boots, to prevent the gaiters moving up. The strap looks kind of flimsy, but is tougher than it looks.. I used them at high altitude in snow and they performed well. I only wish that they had a longer tongue to overlap my laces to protect them better from th

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feel bombproof, fit very well when on, can be tricky to remove in cold weather First up, they are great. When you get them on, they feel like armour. Under-sole buckle/lashings work well and don't feel like they will break in a hurry (but if they do, they are field replaceable). Flexible, but stiff enough to keep up without overtightening top fastenings. A lot of velcro down the front which can collect snow if not down up smoothly. On my Scarpa Vegas/Infernos, they are tricky to remove if you have gloves on as there is a small velcro foldover tab at the base which can be difficult to undo. But you can leave them on your outer boots, so it's only a comment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh...too baggy. I'm no snowboarder! I know these are meant to fit over my plastic boots and be roomy enough for insulation but they end up too baggy on me. Why that's a big deal? Well crampons catch on them and and rip holes (which happens with all gaiters but these seem to get in the way more often). What I'm very disappointed with is the fact that when I cinch them down on my scarpa invernos they fold at the strap point and from pure friction a hole is forming there. Maybe they work better if you have heavy down pants under ur shell...not a good fit/durability for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These babies last forever! I've had these gators for years now, on Alaskan backpacking trips, a NOLS semester in Patagonia, snowshoeing in Montana, you name it. They've been through everything with me, and I'm definitely going to buy another pair when they go. The sizing is versatile, they fit over plastic boots, but they also fit my leather hiking boots just fine. A tip to make them last longer: cut a 5" piece of tubular webbing and slide it on over the leather strap that goes underneath your boot... it'll keep the leather strap from wearing through.
