"Dry, warm feet!"  01/19/12

I used these gaiters on a snowshoeing trip in Michigan's Porcupine mountains this January and they kept my feet dry in 14-16 inches of powder! The design makes for fairly easy on/off even with mittens; Important when the temp reaches highs in the teens. The gore-tex material is extremely abrasion resistant- snowshoes with metal treads didn't put a scratch in em'. The design is extremely functional, the fit is exceptional, and they add an extra layer of insulation where you're likely to contact the most snow.

"The Gold Standard for Non-Insulated Expedition Class Gaiters"  12/29/11

This is a heavy duty constructed product. It has worked great breaking trail through 2 feet of snow while hiking in the Chugach Range in Alaska. I wore these with my trustee leather hiking boots and no snow entered my boot. They are simple and quick to put on. Much like a mousetrap, I don't think they can build a better expedition gaiter.

"tough as nails"  12/13/11

im not a big fan of gaiters but these have performed wonderfully in the mud/rain and i can't foresee them presenting a problem in snow/ice. Some comments have trashed the stitching quality but my pair have held up through trial runs and survived my own torture test/inspection. OR still produces quality items.

"The Bomb! Tough, well constructed. Buckle is tenuously located."  10/21/11

These are well contructed gaiters. However, as with most, the buckles ride low- almost in the arch. I know of several individuals, including myself, who have had buckles break on other gaiters. Another reviewer stated that his broke on this model. However, that said, they are the best I've found.

"For the most part worked well, but took a lot of time and effort to put on, and let some snow in."  10/18/11

These gaiters worked well in packed snow, but seemed to fail around the connection hook over the laces of my double-hiking boots when I got into soft/deep snow.I climbed Mt. Rainier in June, and on several occasions while wearing these gaiters, snow still got in my double mountaineering boots, and I was constantly struggling to dry out my socks and boot liners. These gaiters also took a while to put on every morning. To be fair, I am not sure if this is indicative of all gaiters, or just the OR versions because this is the only time I have ever used gaiters, so I don't have a great basis for comparison.

"TOUGH, well worth the money"  08/09/11

I am not the most careful rest-stepper with my crampons, and I have yet to puncture these gaiters. They are tough as nails. Used them for five cascade volcanoes, and they have not failed me yet.

"Nothing Better on the Market"  07/19/11

The bottom line is this: there really is nothing better on the market. From two feet of snow to thorny brush these things have honestly shed all I can throw at them. The strap on the bottom is built to last, the velcro on the front won't wear out quickly but is the high quality stuff that will last for-ev-er. The ability to tighten and secure around the base beats all other gaiters I've used or seen used. From dry mountain hikes with trail runners to winter hikes in snow these things keep out rocks, twigs, water, and anything else.Forget about anything cheap you may be looking at. Spend the extra dough here, you won't regret it.

"These babies last forever!"  01/18/11

I've had these gators for years now, on Alaskan backpacking trips, a NOLS semester in Patagonia, snowshoeing in Montana, you name it. They've been through everything with me, and I'm definitely going to buy another pair when they go. The sizing is versatile, they fit over plastic boots, but they also fit my leather hiking boots just fine. A tip to make them last longer: cut a 5" piece of tubular webbing and slide it on over the leather strap that goes underneath your boot... it'll keep the leather strap from wearing through.

"Are there any other gaiters to purchase?"  12/07/10

The quick answer to that question is, no! I have checked out a bunch of gaiters in lots of different stores, and by far the OR Expedition Crocodiles are the way to go. But don't take my word for it. Whenever you see mountaineering videos, pictures, or even when you are on the mountain, these guys are the most frequently seen gaiters around! Plus, there is good reason for this. The moment that you pick these guys up, you can tell that they are the most well built and long lasting gaiters around. I think that the Mountain Hardwear Pinnacle Stretch XT Gaiter is a close second, but these guys definitely win hands down.

"OR continues to make amazing Gaiters"  11/03/10

These gaiters are amazing. They are similar to the Crocodile Gaiters but are cut a little bigger and are super bombproof. They are designed to fit over plastic mountaineering boots. They do a great job, keeping mud and snow out of your boots. I've been really happy with these for ice climbing (cheaper to patch than expensive pants) and winter mountaineering.

"Meh...too baggy. I'm no snowboarder!"  07/23/10

I know these are meant to fit over my plastic boots and be roomy enough for insulation but they end up too baggy on me. Why that's a big deal? Well crampons catch on them and and rip holes (which happens with all gaiters but these seem to get in the way more often). What I'm very disappointed with is the fact that when I cinch them down on my scarpa invernos they fold at the strap point and from pure friction a hole is forming there. Maybe they work better if you have heavy down pants under ur shell...not a good fit/durability for me.

"Great Gaiter; Best Gaiter found for La Spotiva Spantik boot"  05/11/10

Needed a gaiter to fit Spantik boot; although not a perfect fit, as it does not reach the final "eye" on the boot, it more than does the job; and is the best fit I could find. Sturdy material ensures that crampons do not go through and rip hard shells.
