great product, be carefulI bought this for a camping trip in NC that was notorious for night-crawlers (of which I am no fan) and loved it. Unfortunately, by the end of the trip I had accidentally (somehow, dunno ask the person responsible how it happened) ripped the side a few inches. It's nothing ducktape can't fix but I expected given the price and reviews it would be stronger....Besides that, it's awesome.

A surplus bivy has some advantagesHonestly, I returned this bivy and purchased an army surplus bivy on ebay, for the reason that the army bivy zips partway down the side. Oh yeah, and it was less than $60. This is basically a stripped down version of the other O.R bivy sacks. The Alpine version has pole(s). The Advanced version has pole(s) and a vent at the foot box area. I have heard the Advanced bivy bug netting can be removed, but I can't confirm that. A 25x77 sleeping pad fits inside. It is Gore-Tex, which is awesome, but the only way in and out is through the opening you see in the product photo(s). I am not sure why O.R doesn't add a watertight zipper down at least one side. Maybe they wanted to save a quarter (I know it would cost more), but in reality, they lost a customer, because I prefer the army bivy style (ie: zipper down the side). The stuff sack could be a bit bigger. Just stuff the bivy in, don't fold it. If you force it you can fit the bivy in, but it's tight, at least it was for me.

Bottom line if you are not claustrophobic and like to stay dry when you are in the Greater OutdoorsThis bivy is AWESOME!! Waterproof like it is its job... well it is its job. Light weight and very compactable. The bug netting gets annoying while you sleep because it sits right on your face. This is not for people who get claustrophobic.
