The Outdoor Research Advanced Bivy is a shelter for one during lightweight backcountry trips. The Advanced Bivy reduces weight for those that don't need the space of a full tent. The spacious bivy increases space for a large sleeping pad and includes a dual-pole system with various configurations. Extra head space increases breathability and reduces the claustraphobic feeling. Pop the Gore-Tex Respiration Positive 3L main fabric open on warm nights to reveal a bug net that blocks creepy crawlies as you count the stars and remember constellations. The anti-fungal coating on the floor holds up for use after use on damp grounds.

If you haven't heard of GORE-TEX by now, you've probably been living under a rock. And that would make sense, because living under a rock is probably the only place where you wouldn't need the durable waterproof and windproof protection that GORE-TEX fabrics offer. So when you're ready to venture out from under your rock, arm yourself with the comfortable protection of GORE-TEX.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing. Must have if you want to stay dry, mobile, and comfortable. I am attending the University of Michigan and I bought this tent for the school year (Yes, I am tenting, hopefully all year). The first night I went out it was difficult to set up (Probably because it was raining and dark out).FAST! Set up. Also, it keeps you 100% dry. It is cozy for sure but the netting that can be used for ventilation around the face area is AWESOME as you lay there at night looking up and the stars and moon. I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it all winter with this set up but with the Advanced Bivy my confidence is extremely high. It also does a great job blocking the wind which keeps you warmer. WORTH the $299!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a nice bivy but it's still a bivy The nice thing about this bivy is that it is bombproof. The Goretex keeps the rain out. The poles give you some space to sleep in and keep covered. ,,,,The downsides are that you still get condensation in the morning. The bug mesh could be a hassle. I just took it out seeing as I wasn't using this during the summer. The poles require you to open the hood to thread the inside pole. This means getting water inside if it's raining. As far as bivies go, it's not the lightest. It may be more comfortable to sleep in than most others, but still not match for a tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every Dollar! As a woman traveller in Patagonia I found this extremely easy to set up after first practicing at home. The Bivvy coped well with all weathers experienced. The netting is a big ++++. The only minus was the need to rig up a system to hold the main zippered section back so the net was exposed enough to see the sky (no problem if you plan ahead for this). The other minus was the snug fit when combining an airmattress and high loft sleeping bag. Still however worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have The first night out with this bivy, it rained and rained. In the morning, I was completely dry. It does take some time to get over the compactness of the bivy. I had a Exped down mat along with a -15 degree bag along with me (6'3", 225 lbs) it was a very cosy fit, but tolerable. It will be a well used tool in my camping/climbing arsenal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective product purchased Hi, Moosejaw

I bought two of this item in May and it turned out that one of the two was defective when my mom actually tried to use it. I need to return the defective one and get a new one. I need to receive the replacement in two weeks. What will be the best way to trade?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never leave home without it I got this bivy over christmas this year, and have used it 6 times already! Kept me dry and had plenty of room! Used it snow camping 2 of the 6 times and never a leak. Foot vent is awesome and can't go wrong with the netting on those clear nights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nifty and durable. This is a wonderful invention. The pole makes it easy to read and relax inside the bivy without making you feel claustrophobic. The bug net is a nice addition. I definitely prefer this over a tent for solo ventures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I've had tis for over a year not it its still working great. I love the compactness, its much better than bringing a tent. all i need camping is one of these and a hammock, and i switch off depending on the night.
