Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey High Road Chassis

Osprey High Road Chassis
All Osprey wheeled travel packs utilize Osprey’s proprietary High Road™ Chassis featuring an ergonomic retractable handle with integrated vent fins, a 6001 Aluminum frame, ultra-durable and light-weight composite base with a fiberglass matrix inlay and integrated foot/grab handle, over-sized high traction polyurethane wheels with sealed bearings and a high clearance design.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Osprey Framesheet

Osprey Framesheet
Whether connected to a peripheral frame on a big load carrier or as a standalone suspension on a day pack, a well-designed framesheet effectively spreads and transitions the loads across the entire body to the harness and hipbelt. With different material and stay options Osprey can make sure each individual pack has the right load carry for its intended use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this pack I went on a day hike with a friend who had this pack and started coveting it pretty much once we got out of the car. 9 miles later I knew I wanted one of my own! I have used it several times and love it! The straps are lightweight and breathable but still soft and comfortable. The waist pockets are stretchy and fit my iPhone 6s easily (even in its LifeProof case). My Osprey 2.5L hydration bladder fits easily in the back and the side mesh pockets fit my 1L Comeback and Nalgene bottles. There are several smaller pockets to hold keys or snacks or sunglasses or whatever small items you might want to keep separate from the main contents of the pack and the trekking pole attachments are very handy especially when the hike requires scrambling over rocks. I got the gray/light blue color combo and think it looks really nice! I haven't used the helmet attachment for a helmet yet but its great for attaching a small hand sanitizer bottle to!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this pack, have used everyday for 2.5 years!! I use this pack every day to commute on foot or by bike around the city to school and work. I also use it for day hikes on weekends. I can fit my laptop, a binder and a book plus water, snacks and more. It also nicely holds my camelbak water bladder when hiking. The outside mesh pocket is amazing for holding just about anything (especially sweaty work-out clothes and shoes). The zippered hip pockets, helmet holder and other fun features are super helpful and work great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This pack deserves every great thing ever written about it! I am a photo enthusiast and travel with a lot of camera equipment. I was looking for a sturdy, lightweight, well organized pack that would have a supportive back and hip straps. Osprey has a reputation for having wonderful backpacks. I read the reviews for the Tempest 20 and they were outstanding. This pack deserves every great thing ever written about it. It is lightweight, fits my back like it was made for it. The hip belt supports a great deal of weight. The chest strap is in just the right place. There is are two easily accessible pockets for jackets or hats, etc. There is a wonderful strap for sunglasses on the front shoulder strap. The pockets in the hip belt are handy and can hold small items. Best of all, once I loaded my camera equipment there was room for more! The bottom of the pack is thin but strong and I am not concerned that the weight inside will break through.,,,,I LOVE this bag!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This bag is the bee's knees for a day hike Ten months ago I was on the hunt for a rig that my ole lady could use while we were out and about in the woods. After a great deal of research I settled on this bag and we couldn't be happier with it. It is intelligently designed with numerous pockets for those that like a bag to be organized. Quality just oozes from this bag with fantastic zippers, rugged construction, and comfortable straps. Heck even the color is fantastic. I found that 20L really hits the sweet spot for our day hike capacity needs. This bag holds the 10 essentials, water and food and there is still ample space left over to throw any additional gear required for the day. Speaking of water, if you plan on pairing a hydration reservoir with this bag, we're using a 2L and that's about as big as I'd recommend. Perhaps the best compliment I can give is that I ended up buying an Osprey day pack for myself after enviously admiring this one for almost a year. The Osprey Tempest 20 gets two thumbs up from this household.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack Being a woman, 5'2" tall, with narrow shoulders has finally been addressed by Osprey. Can't tell you how many hydration packs I have suffered with because of poor fit. Unisex, smaller men sizes and children's packs just don' cut it. I had a Golite daypack that I actually shortened the straps on for a more proportioned fit. It was a pain in the keester to do but it worked and the pack is finally starting to show wear. Hence the purchase of the Osprey. I chose the S/M. My torso size intersected with the xs/s. I opted for more cargo space. I ordered the gray then changed my mind and ordered the emerald green. I thought I would be sending one back but my daughter ended up keeping the gray. It has some blue accents on it that really jazzed it up. I love the green. Couldn't quite do the magenta but it is a great color. Aside from size and color this pack has great features. It almost felt like getting a new car with all the new bells and whistles. The magnetic hose holder is divine. The hydration bladder and sleeve is genius. I bought the 70 oz to start. That seems to be good for the lengths of hikes I do Lots of pockets, loops and even a place for poles. (I had an old Helena Camelbak that I was able to attach xc skis to). Don't know that I'll try that with this one but you never know. My daughter and I are looking forward to many years of use for these packs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great do-it all pack. But not for a chunky laptop I bought this pack because I wanted something that could double as my bookbag for college and a mid-range pack for hiking trips. After getting familiar with this pack's convenient features (like it's stash pocket and zippered hip pockets) and awesome-ly comfortable Airscape back panel, I can see that it's going to be fantastic as a hiking pack (that's implied when buying Osprey, though). When using this pack to haul my books and laptop to and from class however, I quickly realized that my lunk of a computer (15 inch screen) fit in the pack well enough, but not many books or folders would after that. This doesn't leave me with much wiggle room to cram in a lunch or other miscellaneous things. If you're looking for a commuter pack with enough room to shove supplies for a day on campus or at work I might consider a wider, commuter-specific, pack by Osprey. As a hiking pack though I can already tell that the Tempest 20 is going to kick butt. I'll still be happy to work around this space-constraint and keep using it as both my school bag and hiking pack though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME DAY PACK FOR THE WIFEY! I purchased this pack for my wifey. Personally, I am a cracee physical fool. I was an Army Ranger for 6 years, I bow hunt, I backpack, I run Obstacle Course Races. (BattleFrog, Spartan, etc...). And being that I love my Osprey Talon 22L day pack, I ecided to surprise my wifey with the female version, the Osprey Tempest 20L day pack. She absolutely loves it! She uses my day 22L Talon pack all the time for short overnight trips, short airplane trips (fits perfectly in the overhead cargo holds), and short (6-10 mile) hiking trails. So it was time to purchase her "her own" day pack. Long story short, she loved it. It was exactly like my 22L Talon...but smaller. As a 20L daypack, it was better fitted to her body and every day needs. She is using it for everything now, and has a custom-made first-aid kit in the top pouch which she ALWAYS carries in the pack. MooseJaw was awesome, has good prices, and contributes to the active lifestyle. What more can you ask for. Jump on this pack for your wifey. Make sure you order the correct sizes pack, and patronize MooseJaw!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pack! This is the second Tempest pack that I have owned. It is just the right size for a day hike. I love the colors. The best part is the fit. I am 5'8" but my height is in my legs, not my torso. The S/M fits me great. The pack is so comfortable to wear that I forget I have it on! I just wish it had a built in rain cover then it would be perfect!

Is this pack water resistant?

Asked by: Greta
Hiya! Thanks for your question. This pack is not water resistant. If rain is a concern, we recommend purchasing a raincover along with your pack. Here are a couple options: Osprey Ultralight Raincover - http://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ultralight-Raincover_10270427_10208_10000001_-1_ Osprey Hi-Vis Raincover - http://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Hi-Vis-Raincover_10270409_10208_10000001_-1_ You would need a size XS or Small to fit this pack. Hope this helps!

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
