Osprey Airspeed

Osprey Airspeed
Using peripheral suspension design this lightweight, three dimensional suspension eliminates foam and backpanel materials and replaces it with lightweight suspended mesh. Three dimensionally shaped to allow maximum airflow and optimal tension and load carry sets Osprey apart from other tensioned mesh backpacks.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This pack was great! It has more space than I needed but isn't so large that I'm carrying too much unneeded space. The only problem with this pack is the shoulder straps were quite close together and rubbed at my neck. If I wear a higher necklined shirt the issue does not occur. Overall a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic day hike pack! I got this pack as a gift, and it definitely is a hit! The pack is first and foremost very comfortable. It will hold everything you need for a day on the trail and even school stuff. The feedback I got was all positive for the pockets and the especially the color (purple). The bottom side compression strap will go behind the water bottle pocket. That's a good detail. My girlfriend said she doesn't have to hunch over at all. The pack wears very good. The included rain cover is so awesome, no need to buy one. Rain covers can get spendy. She is petite and the pack looks normal on her. Overall this pack is great investment if you are looking into a quality pack for many years to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect fitting but very sensitive surface I love this backpack! But for something that is made for hiking, the surface is much to sensitive to scratches and marks! I used it carefully for uni during the first days and it already has a lot of scratches now! So sad! The bright blue looked amazing before. Now it looks as if I had used this backpack for years already.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well loved! I LOVE this pack! So. Comfortable and pickets for everything. Even when the pack is full and weighs quite a bit, it still sits comfortably on my back. I purchased the olive color and after a year of travel, it looks amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice roomy day pack I was looking for a comfortable pack intermediate in size between my 18L and my 34L. This one fits the bill perfectly! The straps are well padded and fully adjustable and the pack rides comfortably on my hips and shoulders. It has the right number of side pouches and compartments without being overly complicated and the pack is roomy enough for a bulky lunch, extra layers, a first aid kit and miscellaneous field guides. The blue color is very attractive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just purchased and promptly returning... Purchased this for a two-week trip to Italy. Had researched Osprey in the store and then went online. Found this and thought perfect size, color and minimal design element on the front. Didn't want a top load. When compared to the Talon (S/M in both) the fit in this is terrible. The Talon holds the bag close to the back and this one is uncomfortable on the shoulders/upper back. It sits too far out from the back. The biggest issue...the built-in back curve/support. It takes up entirely too much room in the pack. Lastly, the buckeyes on the top left and right do not "lift" off the bag which makes it difficult to grab and unclasp. They should be on a strap. I only wanted it for a large carry-on and it doesn't fit the bill. Too structured and uncomfortable. Make this gray/green color and simplistic design in the Talon and I'm sold! My husband says "massive amount of hardware for minimal space."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack! Perfect for a day hike. I brought this with me on a trip to Africa. It was perfect for the day hikes we did - I could easily fit my camelback pouch, a few snacks, sunscreen, a raincoat/windbreaker. I loved the waist pocket for my lip protection. The frame kept me cool and the substantial waist belt kept the pack from feeling heavy. I even used this as my carry on for the trip - it fit my computer, iPad, camera, and some snacks. My only complaint is that when hiking and scrambling up rocks, the frame kept me from being able to tilt my head back a little bit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome pack , needs a front shove it pocket! I literally love how this pack fits - I am 5 ft, 118 lbs, and i found S/M fit me better than XS. It seems I can do much better with frame packs than those without. this one is a miracle - it's lightweight due to aluminum frame, and really hugs the hips transferring the load off your shoulders. It's true due to the frame it feels like it isn't roomy enough and getting to your gear can be tricky. This would be a five star pack if it had a front shove it mesh pocket and was a tad bigger - say 28ltr capacity.

is the hydration component removable?

Asked by: Psam
Hey there, The hydration sleeve is sewn in so it is not removable, but you are able to insert and remove any reservoir up to 3L (reservoir purchased separately).
