Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I highly recomend it! I have purchased several packs over the years but have decided the Osprey packs are for me! I recently purchased this pack for my wife for a 15 mile backpacking trip with our 17 year old daughter and 5 of her friends. I kept trying to get my wife to train with the pack but she refused. She said she would rather suffer one day than many. I was worried that she would struggle...but she didn't. The pack was comfortable and held all she needed for the overnight trip. It is well made with just the right amount of tech specs for her. The built in rain fly was great since it rained the whole first day! My Osprey Aether 70 doesn't even have this. I think she just might go with us again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Your wife will love it too! Got this for my wife for her birthday in an attempt to lure her into a fully awesome and potentially dangerous outdoor adventure. She loves the small frame size and ladies specific fit for her beautiful womanly figure. This is her first pack and she seems to be quite comfortable wearing the pack empty with me just hanging off of it to simulate a trail load. If I was a girl I would get this pack for myself. Since I'm a dude I will surely consider purchasing the men's equivalent when I upgrade my pack. Tons of storage, plenty of straps to hold everything down, and the rain cover is awesome!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems to be perfect I bought this pack 6 weeks prior to departure for the Camino de Santiago in Spain. I have been working with it -- loading my gear, hiking with it in all kinds of weather, getting to know it like a trusted friend. I am pleased that it will hold everything I need for 5 weeks of hiking (not camping). Fully loaded, pack is 19 pounds and size complies with airline carryon dimensions. Just wish it had another outside pocket and more places to clip things. Maybe it does. The tag said there is an online owners manual, but I haven't found it yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great lightweight pack! I ordered this bag last year after doing A LOT of research and the brand was recommended by a friend. I was hesitant about fitting all my things in this small space but knew I didn't want to carry around 50+ lbs on my back. So I ordered the bag and adjusted my packing list. I went to Thailand, Cambodia and Bali for one month and these places require a lot of walking. If my bag was any heavier it would have been impossible! It was my first time traveling internationally and I worried way too much about what clothes to bring (needed to look good in my pictures, duh!). This bag really forces you to slim down your packing list but somehow I still brought way too much! Besides the size, its comfortable on the shoulders/back, the material is sturdy and all of the little pockets are super useful! The only problem is its inability to lock up. Other than that it's great! I think it's the perfect pack for a small 5'3'' girl!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value! Very Comfortable! I bought this after a long time researching backpacks and trying on different styles in stores. I have't gotten to do any traveling with it, but I've been using it day to day when I need to take extra stuff with me to school. It's so comfortable to wear, even when it's filled with cans and groceries. The back panel breaths really well, the hips straps work wonderfully distributing the weight and have handy pockets. The stretchy mesh pocket is great for holding books and lunches. The inside pocket is huge and fits way more than it looks like it would. The Rain fly works great. The sleeping bag compartment also works great for taking extra layers with you when you have a bunch of books you need to get to in the main compartment. I'll review again once I take it traveling over winter break!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest pack ever. Not only have I used this pack for my day hikes/adventures, I use it for going on week long backpacking trips too. If you know how to pack efficiently, this pack can live into it's full potential. Just stick to your essentials and you're good to go. The straps can be a little confusing, so just make sure to check out one of ospreys sweet videos so that you know how to make the best use of them. I like to attach stuff securely to the outside of my packs when going out on long excursions, so knowing which straps can be used is helpful. Perfect fit for the female figure as the hip belt and shoulder straps are easily adjusted and comfortable! It's got a space for your hydraulic liter, and a zippered sleeping bag compartment at the bottom of the pack body that makes it easy to load and unload. You're gonna love this pack!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this size for a 5 day hut-to-hut trip in the alps (no sleeping bad/pad and not much food needed to be carried, but crampons and harness/positioning lanyards needed). If you get any smaller the hip belt padding gets to flimsy. Perfect size. Figured I could cinch down for other trips or add a pad to the outside if I wanted to.
