Osprey Custom Molding

Osprey Custom Molding
When the loads get heavy, a supportive and effective hipbelt can support that weight. Osprey custom heat molds their hipbelt to you, eliminating hotspots, chaffing and bruising. This combines the best of a stiff, load bearing hipbelt with the cushioned comfort you need most when trekking with all your gear.

Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the perfect pack! I bought this pack to take with me on backcountry trips that range from 4 - 7 days long. I am able to hold all of my gear as well as access it without having to tear through everything to find something buried at the bottom. My favorite feature is the pocket at the top of the pack, I can access this pocket over my head while hiking without having to take my pack off! The hip belt pockets are also amazing for a camera, chap stick, small bottle of bug spray, anything you might want in reach. Lastly, because of the plentiful straps and buckles, I am always able to clip extra things on or strap them down if I want them on the outside of the pack. Long story short, I love this pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for multi-day hikes I have used this bag for the past year on 10+ backpacking trips. I have had no problems with it whatsoever and find it very comfortable to wear. The bag has the great osprey hip belt that is molded to you and that helps the comfort on long hikes, I can definitely tell the difference from the bag I was using. It has lots of places to adjust for a truly individual fit. The compartments are in the right place with just the right access to each. It took no time at all to figure out where everything fit and how to get to it. I love this bag..and it is cute!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thumbs up I bought this pack for a 10 day backpacking trip in Guatemala and it was everything I needed and more. I was looking for something that I could get all of my gear in and out quickly, but have it all be secure and COMFORTABLE as I was going to be lugging this thing around for over a week. It was a great investment and I've found that it's the easiest way to travel now since it can fit a small cow and still fits in the overhead compartment on planes. ,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If a tree fell in the woods and nobody was around to hear it, this backpack would still look good. This review is two years in the making. I originally purchased this bag back in 2011. I purchased it when I retired my last bag after 6 years of rugged use so I had high expectations. It has ventured with me through many countries, in all types of conditions. ,,,,Pros: The bag is very comfortable to wear. It sits nicely on the hips and distributes the weight evenly. It is shockingly spacious and can carry a lot of gear. Osprey customer service is also fantastic. When the cord lord broke off on the first trip I took, I originally contacted Moosejaw online. A nice man with a funny American accent phoned me and provided me with the contact information of the Osprey distribution centre in Canada. They replaced the broken part free of charge. ,,,,Cons: It is not the most secure backpack (it cannot be locked). It also does not come with a rain cover (like other Osprey packs). The grey mesh on the front pocket of the pack tears quite easily. Mine has numerous holes and rips from use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Pack! This pack is exactly what I was looking for. It got me around the entire country of New Zealand comfortably and looked awesome at the same time. Holds a ton of stuff, great construction, and a super comfy hipbelt that includes pockets! Everyone loves pockets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfort levels over 9000 I have a super bum left shoulder and it makes for carrying backpacks painful after about an hour. But the moment I weighted and fitted this, my back felt fine and I was gungho to get out! Even after 3 hours of roaming, my shoulder was great! I'm hiking the LT this summer and maybe even throw in a PCT section when I get back home to Oregon. Everything fits so perfectly and I'm so impressed with Osprey's quality! This pack is amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pack I have ever used I have had this pack for over 10 years and still absolutely love it. The hip belt fits perfectly and makes all the difference. I originally purchased it for the sole purpose of backpacking but it's turned into my crag bag as climbing became my go-to sport. I have used this bag on multi day backpacking adventures, a few of which involved lugging heavy climbing gear for a couple dozen miles. I've traveled Europe and again subjected it to heavy climbing gear, clothes, boots and food. I frequently abuse it day-tripping at climbing crags because it handles the weight of rope and gear so much better than the climbing-specific bags I've tried. I have a guilty hope that it will get so damaged that I can take advantage of their guarantee and get a clean, new pack but other than a few minor fabric tears that I fixed on my own with a needle and heavy thread, the things is good as new (minus the dirt, of course).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great backpack I bought this for my fiance and its the perfect size for her. She had been using my external and it was rubbing places on her hips. Got her this pack, which being made for women should fit better, and no more problems. Very cool too that she can attach her daylite pack for added storage if she ever needs it.

I wear a small (torso) in Osprey but need a medium hip belt. How do I go about getting the right sizes that I need?

Asked by: Christina
We can certainly accommodate that special order for you. If you contact our customer service department via phone at 877 666 7352, or chat/email via the Moosejaw website anyone here could help you. Who knows it might even be me?

Does the Osprey Ariel 65 have a ajustable torse alignment? My wife is 5'11" and I thinks she has a 16-18 Torso measurement. Is the pack adjustable in the torso lenght area?

Asked by: Running Fish
Hey there, The Ariel 65 does indeed have an adjustable torso alignment. For a 16-18'' torso, a size Small should be the best fit.
