Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Custom Molding

Osprey Custom Molding
When the loads get heavy, a supportive and effective hipbelt can support that weight. Osprey custom heat molds their hipbelt to you, eliminating hotspots, chaffing and bruising. This combines the best of a stiff, load bearing hipbelt with the cushioned comfort you need most when trekking with all your gear.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT FIRST PACK! This is MY first pack( I've got it in blue).I did a lot of research on the right pack for me and the ariel65 seems to tick all my boxes! ,,I needed a M hipbelt but between a SM-M torso & ordered a M pack. You can adjust the torso length, so it fits me perfectly! The straps are super comfortable & don't dig into my shoulders and the hipbelt after you wear it for a while forms to your hips! I didn't have the hipbelt molded to my frame, but after some wear it does it anyway so I wouldn't bother.,,,,The only negative I can think of is there are SO MANY STRAPS! They are everywhere on this pack. But you CAN adjust them to suit how much stuff you're carrying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STORAGE and STRAPS!!! This thing is great!! It pretty much fits everything I need and has a strap for things I don't even need! This pack will fit a small child if need be. Then if you end up packing something you need quickly at the bottom, you can open up the front and get right to it. Also if you fall off the face of a mountain not only will the red stand out, as opposed to your boring friends with their neutral colored backpacks, but you also have the hand bear whistle (which is on a strap that helps keep the girls in place). It also helped being able to have the waist belt custom fitted, because I find myself fidgeting a lot if otherwise, and now I can fidget with something else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged, gets the job done w/o any problems. I stuff this with ~ 50-75 lbs. & haul it 10+ miles through you name it for 8 days at a time. It's the only piece of gear I've owned this summer that hasn't worn out or failed me.,,Best:,,Outer pockets make it easy to find places to stash stuff. They're easily accessible so that you can grab whatever without digging through everything.,,Zippers don't get stuck or go off track. Laugh now, but that's really amazing.,,Lots of straps in all the right places to cinch your gear in TIGHT.,,The hip belt can be custom molded by any Osprey dealer. It actually doesn't need it, so don't bother unless you have nothing better to do.,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing bag! I have this bag in blue and it is absolutely amazing. The straps are extremely comfortable, and the bag has the ability to pack up nice and tight so that it carries things comfortably. The only thing I don't like is the small stretchy/adjustable loop on the front left strap. My arm tends to rub against it which can be annoying, although after a little while on the trail I stopped noticing it as much. I love the bottom zip part I put the divider in and have my sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and cup/spork all in the lower compartment. This makes them easy to get to at camp and the divider keeps things nice and neat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fabulous pack I used this pack to hike 700 miles of the Appalachian Trail this summer and she held up very well. The only problems I had were that the meshing tore-but this started when mice chewed on it, so that isn't a fault of the pack. And otherwise the wire that sits on the hips wore through the casing around it, which made it sit a little bit crookedly on my back. But when I called Osprey and spoke with their three person customer service department about the tears in the wire casing they cheerfully sent me a brand-new pack and I just had to pay shipping costs. I would recommend this pack, along with the rain cover made for it. The pack (and Osprey the company) won't let you down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, well designed This pack is comfy even carrying a heavy load. I can carry more with this pack than I could with the Gregory Jade 60, which gave me bruises when I carried a lot.,,,,The sleepingbag compartment is a must for me--lets my bag conform to the shape of the pack (rather than in a stuffsack which leaves empty space all around it in the pack) and makes my bag super easy to access. The front stretch pocket, and top and side access rocks. I haven't converted the lid into a daypack yet, but the included straps look like they will work well.,,,,Some hipbelt pockets would be a welcome addition (though an "addon" would prob work), and the pack isn't super lightweight compared to some others.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Geat Pack- It's comfortable and well thought-out. I'm a guy, but the average men's pack is too wide for me. I bought this pack based on a few reviews about how it fits on a person with a small frame. This pack worked incredibly well. The hip-belt is not prone to slip down (a problem you might have if you're a skinny dude). ,,Beyond its fit, this pack is great in the versatility category. The straps on the outside of the pack as well as the large external pocket make it easy to adjust the volume that you throw into your pack. If you need to leave your pack behind for a day-hike or in an emergency, the top of the pack detaches. This detached bag is a great feature and will stop you from carrying a small backpack inside this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fitting Pack I love this pack. It fits like a glove, is extremely durable, and looks great! I like the fact that there aren't too many pockets on the outside because for me, the more pockets there are, the more I tend to pack. Like the previous reviewer, I would agree that a pocket on the hipbelt would be nice for some snacks or a camera. I find the 65 liter size to be perfect for both overnight and multi-day backpacking trips. My suggestion for anyone interested in buying a backpack is to be fitted for one in person. I am 5'10" and was shocked to find that I had a short torso and needed to order the small size.
