Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More comfortable than my bed. Really. First, thank you to the East Lansing store staff for being so awesomely helpful! You see, I am not a very big person, in fact I'm kind of a little person so its important to me that a pack to be both lightweight and for it to sit well on my (small) frame. This pack accomplishes both of those goals easily. It makes forty pounds of gear feel like it's hardly there. The only gripe I see some people having with it is it's lack of pockets, being that there are really only three distinct compartments. Buts lets be honest, when I go on trips I just kind of throw my stuff together in a sort of lovely organized mess anyways.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from depends on your build, and you could probably do just as well with a smaller bag The good It's huge, and if you are going somewhere for a few months, it will definitely find room for whatever you're trying to fit in there. The bad It's huge, and if you are going somewhere for a few months, you may want to try something just a big smaller because it's heavy as hell by the end. The comparable It was much more roomy than my boyfriend's Northface pack, but his back had more cushioning on the straps and seemed to fit better. Eventhough it's won awards and is supposively built to fit a female frame, i felt it was for someone with much more muscle and a much longer torso than me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME!!! I bought this for my wife who was new to backpacking and she imediatly fell in love with it. She is trying to drag me out every weekend now. You website was simple to navigate and easily outranks REI on service and product availablity - few sites offered this in the small size. PLus the free raincover was a great bonus. We travelled with 7 people on this trip and everyone was told about your website and how great it was! Shipping was on target too and it is great that you recycle your boxes knowing that made me more commited to your company. The only problem I did find was that your based out of Michigan and since I am an Ohio State fan that is a pretty big hurdle to jump over. Keep up the

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this pack. Really. I've been using a crappy Mountainsmith pack for 3 years, so admittedly anything is an update...but this pack is amazing. TONS of room, very good access points, adjustable sleeping bag separation, more compression options than you'll know what to do with, great sleeve for a hydration bladder. And it fits me, which is not something that I've had luck with in the past. Colors are meh, but I and my back won't complain. The removable daypack top is not your standard crappy awkward removable daypack...the hipbelt from the pack actually attaches to the daypack. So comfy. And the belt can be custom fit, which is a great option if I can ever to a certified store. Wish this pack had a horseshoe-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this pack. it is awesome I have used this pack on 5 trips and LOVE IT! It fits all my gear and has enough pockets that I can organize my stuff in it pretty well. It packs so that weight is carried in the right area. It has a convenient overhead pocket that can store granola bars, sunglasses and things you want to grab without taking off your pack. Has 2 convenient water bottle holders on each side and a separate zipper at the bottom to get your sleeping bag out. Also, your sleeping pad clips on vertically which makes all my friends envious because I fit through narrow rocks and in between trees easier!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOMENESSSSS This pack is great! I am a kinda small 5'3 & 120 lbs so i was nevous about carrying a pack that weighed almost 1/2 my weight, when I had it full for a week long trip. The pack is amazing! It's comfortable and keeps the weight distributed in all the right places so you hardly even realize you are carrying a pack! Plus added bonus, with it's great compression system you can put lots of stuff in it and then strap it down and it will in an overhead compartment on a plane so you may not even need to check luggage.... unless you want to bring mroe than 3 oz of toothpaste with you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong enough for a man, made for a woman I love this pack! It fits my small frame, it's easily adjustable (especially around the boobs) I love the airscape bag that feels a bit like a massage while you're hiking. The hipbelt custom molds to your body as you use it. In short, it made carrying nearly have my weight on my back almost a pleasure. ,,,,The Osprey brand is a great brand, it has add-ons for water bottles and phones and those could be nice perks but certainly not necessary. I would recommend the rain cover though - but that's a separate review and I don't mean to give spoilers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great pack Got this pack for my 13 year old for camp. She hiked the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and had a blast. The pack came back home looking like she'd never even used it, and she trashes everything, so I think it was a great durable pack.<BR>The Moosejaw people told us/taught us a ton about backpacks when we were looking and fitted her and adjusted the different packs and did a great job. I think that's why we go to Moosejaw for this stuff we need for camp every year, because they seem to know what they're doing, plus good music in the store.
