"Comfortable and roomy, rugged where it needs to be, just light enough"
great pack for longer solo trips in the back country. very comfortable mold-able hipbelt. I carried about 80 Lbs in it on my last day this season without failure. As all osprey packs it has taken its beating and never failed to perform perfectly.
I'm a first timer as far as hiking packs but this one is proving to be as good as everyone says. My first trip with it was a 3 mile up hill hike in Big Sur (not a huge hike but it gave me a good picture). The thing fit like it'd been broken in and was super supportive. I originally bought the 65 and returned it because I was worried it was too bulky. I'm happy with the 55L. This pack fit everything I needed for a 2 week road trip and I'm not that minimalist when it comes to packing. The pockets on the waist strap are golden. Another awesome feature is the bottom entry zipper. That was one of my main stipulations when looking for a pack and it really does make all the difference. The water bladder capability is nice, too. I'll check back in after I conquer bigger terrain!
"Purchased for the GF... and she loves it!"
I personally wear an Aether 70, and picked this up for my girlfriend to use on our trips together. She loves it, some amazing female specific tune ups on this pack when compared to the Aether. She feels similarly to how I feel about my Aether, sure the pack weighs a bit more, but it carries loads like a dream. Worth every penny!
My wife needed a new multi-day pack she is tall and thin most packs just look and feel ridiculous on her. Well, after some research we found a new "GO TO" the Areil 55 Osprey pack for women is perfect. It really fits her well and she loves the look, not really important but it's true. This pack has only seen some lite hiking so far as we are preparing for a huge trip. Hopefully this helps thanks for reading.
I spent months researching packs before I finally settled on this one. I chose it for comfortable fit and size. I lived out of it for five months while backpacking through southwest China. It saw everything a pack could see, and came out on top. For a smaller person (I'm 5'4 and 110 pounds) this pack is PERFECT. The weight balances well, and I never felt like I would topple over. The extra compression strap is great when the pack isn't super full, and the detachable brain came in handy when I didn't want to use my daypack. My only wish is that this pack had a few more pockets like Gregory does, but I ended up being fine without them (less opportunity to lose things). Instead, I used soft cloth bags to organize tiny things. All in all, I'm very excited to use it for future adventures. If you like packing lots of things, and can handle the weight, definitely bump up to a 65L model.
This backpack is awesome. I upgraded from a day pack, and this holds tons of stuff, but can compress down when less full, so it doesn't look enormous. The straps at the base were great for hauling the tent. The side pockets each held a 1 liter Camelbak waterbottle without any problem, and are easily accessible when wearing the pack. The pockets on the waist strap are super convenient for a small camera, chapstick, hand sanitizer, etc. The waist strap did leave some sore, rub spots on my hips after 10 hours of hiking, but I think it had more to do with me not being used to carrying a heavy pack, and the pants I was wearing did have any stretch in the waist. I almost got to test the whistle on a black bear, but my pack was outside the tent, and I was inside. I'll remove the whistle and keep it on me next time. Overall, great looking pack that works really well, and it was a total bargain on moosejaw.
