Osprey Custom Molding

Osprey Custom Molding
When the loads get heavy, a supportive and effective hipbelt can support that weight. Osprey custom heat molds their hipbelt to you, eliminating hotspots, chaffing and bruising. This combines the best of a stiff, load bearing hipbelt with the cushioned comfort you need most when trekking with all your gear.

Osprey High Road Chassis

Osprey High Road Chassis
All Osprey wheeled travel packs utilize Osprey’s proprietary High Road™ Chassis featuring an ergonomic retractable handle with integrated vent fins, a 6001 Aluminum frame, ultra-durable and light-weight composite base with a fiberglass matrix inlay and integrated foot/grab handle, over-sized high traction polyurethane wheels with sealed bearings and a high clearance design.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite backpack so far! I have used this pack three times since I purchased it. I can say that the Osprey Volt 60 is my favorite pack out of all the packs I own. I find myself using it even on day hikes just to take extra stuff for the family and dog. I love the adjustable torso and side pockets. Plenty of space inside for my gear, sleep system, clothes and cook set. very durable and comfortable. Not too heavy and just the right size pack for most trips short or long. Probably a good size for a thru hike as well. just try to keep the pack weight under 40lbs. and you should be fine!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple, Light and Comfortable This pack is almost advertised as a entry level no frills pack, but I have found it to be a perfect combination of light weight and load carrying capacity. I am replacing my faithful Bora 65, which weighs close to twice as much, and so far have not been disappointed. It has more than enough "features" for me, with well placed and spacious pockets, and two entrances to the main compartment (one via the sleeping bag compartment). It lives up easily to its rated load capacity (note: significantly more than other Osprey offerings in the same weight category), and it easily carries 20 Kgs (45 lbs) with the well conceived hip belt and suspension feeling like it could go a lot further. ,,The top pocket is very big, so I had to be carful not to overload it. The only point where I am a little worried is that the Velcro harness adjustment tab, while very easy to adjust, is a little small, and I worry that it may slip after a lot of picking the pack up by one shoulder strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile, tough, simple - highly coveted by other travelers I use this both for week-long backpacking trips in the US and for international travel (Latin America). It's taken a lot of abuse over the last year but remains as good a new. It still rides quite comfortable despite the lack of fancy padding. It's also fairly understated which is perfect fo not calling too much attention to yourself as an international traveler. My only issue is that its bit of a struggle stuffing my sleeping bag into the tight bottom compartment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Pack Just received this pack, and the quality is fantastic. Unlike many packs, the buckles, clips, and zippers on this are all top-of-the-line and durable. Really impressed with pretty much everything about this pack. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with an integrated rainfly, which needs to be purchased separately. It's a pretty minor quibble, though, all things considered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good backpacking bag I just went on a two-day hike, carrying my tent, sleeping mattress and sleeping bag on top of food and water. Everything fitted in the backpack, and it was easily accessible. I like that you can adjust the upper part of the bag according to how full the main compartment is. It is a good backpack, I didn't feel the weight.

What rain cover (brand and size) is recommended for this pack?

Asked by: ForestAzure
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Rain covers are design to fit a pack based on its liters, regardless of brand. Brands are a personal preference. Osprey does make rain covers, some are integrated on specific packs (unfortunately, the Volt does not), and you're most likely looking for a size Large based on this pack size.
