The Osprey Variant 52 Pack is a mountaineering and climbing pack for icy, snowy pursuits. The Variant 52 weighs in under 4 pounds, with a load carry range from 35 to 50 pounds. Load in your gear from the top, and from there you can adjust the pack as necessary for your adventure. Yup, that means you can remove pieces to drop the weight even further, such as the top pocket, and you still have the FlapJacket™ closure system to keep your gear protected from the elements. The HDPE framesheet and aluminume peripheral rod are also removable, as well as the EVA foam hipbelt. Carry your ice tools using the dual holster and bungees at the front and stuff your crampons or shell in the front panel. All that, and it still finds a way to carry your skis in an A-frame.
