OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pack but needs more padding in the low back area. First of all, this pack is super light comparing to majority of other packs (which is of course a great thing). The straps are very well made and comfy and there is a cute bonus of the sternum strap... a whistle ! I thought that was a nice touch. The pack is very well made, sturdy, nice to look at and very spacious. The two pockets on the belt strap are nice touch, convenient for cell, keys or snack. The only thing that sucks about this pack is the padding in the low back area. It's just not enough! If you load your pack close to 30 lb your low back will hurt after few hours. If you stay in 20 lb range, you will be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my favorite pack I have abused this backpack in the most extreme and wild place, from the peaks of the Swiss canyon in the heart of the mountains. I always thought a backpack ultralight could break at any moment, but not with the Talon, you see that it was well designed and although light is also very durable.,,I find it just a stupid little 'things, for the quick sticks (deleted),,containment system braid (deleted), I saved more weight this way.,,also told that has a capacity of 15 kg, but can carry up to 20 kg when properly charged, I have not had any problems.,,really recommended, big backpack, too bad that there are other colors

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wanted to like it, but... I wanted to like this pack, since it's a pound lighter than my Osprey Kestrel. The Talon saves weight by sacrificing suspension - at 22 pounds, total, the suspension on the Talon 44 was not comfortable for me. (IOne factor may be that at 61, my upper body strength isn't what it was at 30.) I liked the design of the pack: single large main compartment, roomy lid, nice side, back and hipbelt pockets, nice bladder compartment. I didn't like the straight (not recurved) shoulder straps, and the padding on the hipbelt and shoulder straps isn't stiff enough. For true ultralighters, this pack might work extremely well, but for my light-but-not-UL style, it's not a good choice..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this backpack! I bought this backpack when I got tired of lugging my huge, heavy Gregory backpack around. I was surprised to find that I could fit enough stuff into for multi-day backpacking adventures, and found that it provides enough support even when full to the brim. And for a pretty minimalist pack, it has really nice touches like pockets on the straps accessible from the front that are perfect for cameras and granola bars. I have also taken on a couple trips through Central America, and was delighted to discover that is also rugged enough to withstand baggage checks and rough handling. Very versatile, and pretty, too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall Great Backpack! The pack is pretty roomy and very confortable. Even fully loaded, the shoulder and waist straps distribute the weight pretty well. The shoulder straps are thinner than typical shoulder straps for backpacking packs, yet are just as confortable and functional as any other. The sternum strap also has an integrated whistle in the buckle, nice little addition. It has a lot of straps all around, including ones at the bottom for sleeping bag/pad. Other great features are the little zippered pockets on both sides of the waist belt and the harness-like gear loop on the left side of the pack. The only thing I would like to have are medium sized zippered compartments on the sides of the pack

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile Pack with all the bells and whistles Got this pack off a crazy sale. However, retail price I still believe this pack is worth it. ,,,,Fantastic pack. Osprey makes great quality gear that is well built, well ventilated, extremely comfortable, with all the pockets, pouches, strings, etc you need. No complaints on fit. Storage space is plenty for hikes up to 3-4 days depending how you pack. However, I did reach the limits of the suspension during my trip to the Maroon Bells. It was a 4 day hike, with ~35lb. Into half of the first day, definitely pains and aches here and there that a stronger, more padded backpacking pack would not have had. Got me through fine, but just not ideal in that situation - that's all

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pack for ultralight minimalists and overnighters This is my favorite pack for minimalist jaunts. After a little practice, I am now able to fit a weekend's worth of fall weather gear. The build quality is good for an ultra-light pack. ,,,,The good- just enough space without unnecessary frills, lightweight, neat little perks (like stow-on-the-go pole storage, sternum buckle emergency whistle, side compression straps can route under the pockets), comfortable despite smaller straps, good ventilation. ,,,,The bad- like any ultralight pack it is less durable, shoulder straps might become uncomfortable if you load the pack down with lots of weight (I was fine with 25lbs of gear), only one external pocket for daily accessories/snacks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for loads 30 lbs and under The Talon 44 pack has been my "go to" pack for weekend backpacking trips. It carries loads under 30 lbs very comfortably. I've had my pack for over 6 years. It's been on numerous backpacking trips, including completing all 48 of the 4000 footer peaks in the White mountains of New Hampshire with it (most in winter). The fabric is durable... my pack doesn't have any tears. The white fabric on the bottom does get a little dirty from sitting on the ground, but not as bad as you'd think. It can handle loads over 30 lbs, but the pack isn't designed for heavier loads so it'll start to feel less comfortable.
