The Osprey Talon 33 Pack is a backcountry pack that provides the greatest hiking luxury ever: freedom from a poorly ventilated, sweaty back. The AirScape backpanel, molded ridge foam back, and air chimney are all integrated into this bag to provide optimized ventilation that will have you focused on the trail instead of the load you're carrying. The zippered map pocket makes sure your map is in easy reach, and this hydration compatible back will carry your water resevoir with ease. This top-loading bag features internal and external compression components that keep your load in place and makes sure it doesn't shift. I found out the hard way that rabbits don't like ranch dressing on their carrots.

Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Osprey Framesheet

Osprey Framesheet
Whether connected to a peripheral frame on a big load carrier or as a standalone suspension on a day pack, a well-designed framesheet effectively spreads and transitions the loads across the entire body to the harness and hipbelt. With different material and stay options Osprey can make sure each individual pack has the right load carry for its intended use.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Day pack.! This pack is great! It looks smaller than it is. It's small enough I can wear it to classes as a laptop bag, but when you extend the straps and set it up to pack, you can put an insane amount of stuff in this bag. This bag could easily be taken on a 2-3 day trek if you pack light. I love this bag! I have a the larger of the two sizes and I was told I am right in the middle of the two sizes. I'm 6'0ft and have a longer torso, so if you are above I say go with the larger, and vise versa. All around this is the best daypack I've ever had. Osprey specializes in bags, don't spend the same amount of money for a patagonia, or north face bag. You will not get the same quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Pack This is a pretty outstanding pack. The top-loader design is nice for packing my rope and all my gear in, though if something works its way to the bottom, you'll have to pull everything out to get to it. The draw straps are a nice touch, as you can cinch everything down and keep the weight close to your body. Straps aren't super padded, but sufficient for the weight this pack can carry....I would say 30lbs would be pushing it. My biggest complaint is I take this to the crag alot, and I don't think the bottom of the bag is going to hold up very long on the rocks, as the nylon is pretty thin. That said, it does aid in the light weight of the pack....overall I really like it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I wanted to love it, but... I eyed this bag up for 2 years before I finally bought it. Every review is absolutely glowing, however...,,,,1. The top pouch is extremely impractical. It has a ton of room inside, but the zipper is barely wide enough to get an ungloved hand inside which made it very frustrating to get anything out without taking everything out. ,,2. The side pouches are almost useless. ,,3. I have a 33" waist and there is an awkward amount of extra hip belt leftover once tight. ,,,,The hip pockets and chest pockets are great, however, and the reservoir holder is ultra convenient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect all around pack I use it for school books during the week and adventure stuff on the weekend. Great if you need to pack a few clothes to go somewhere for a couple days or if you want to pack a bunch of gear in for camping! Pouch on the front is kind of weird. Stuff likes to fall out but its good for gloves or a hat. Not really a need for the waist pockets unless you want to put a flash light or your keys in there. Breast pockets are perfect for a knife to have on hand and the whistle across the center strap is just plain cool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Climbing Bag This pack is great for day trips, weekenders, or a minimalist week long excursion. I use it mainly to haul my climbing gear around, and it all fits so easily (even room for a hammock, snacks, and trash we pick up on the trail!). I'm a huge fan of all the straps, pockets, and loops because I can hook anything to them when we go from base to base rather than packing it all back in there. Bottom line- Its a great reliable pack that will survive multiple falls from 80'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic All-rounder I've used the Talon 33 for a little over four years and could not be more pleased with its reliable performance. For long weekends to the Yucatan, it's the only bag I carry and it can fit into the plane's overhead and even manage to hold my 4-pc fly rod case, lashed to the side. It carries everything I could want for alpine day-hikes in the Rockies or minimalist overnighters in the Boston Mtns of Arkansas. I can jam a Mtn Hardwear Ultralamina 15, bivvy sack, Coleman 442, 3 layer rainshell, 1.5 day's food, and a few extras into it and still comfortably handle 3rd and 4th class terrain. The lightweight construction is comfortable for me, up to about 20 lbs. After several years of frequent use, the lighter nylon on the bottom has begun to wear to the point that I'm beginning to consider replacing it ... but I'll get the same pack again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good lightweight summer pack This pack manages to have a lot of features while staying fairly light. The hip belt pockets are sized for food or a very small camera. The stretchy outer sleeve can expand to hold a jacket. For winter use, however, the pack lacks a ski carrying system and the semi-external hydration bladder pocket could collect snow or allow a bladder to freeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This bag does it all! I've had this bag for about 2 years now, and it has been awesome. Lots of storage space without being too bulky, tough as nails, and fits really well (just make sure you get the right size). I use it for biking, fast packing, and as a carry-all for going to running races and triathlons. You definitely won't be disappointed with this bag!
