The Meridian 22 is convertible, which means you can wheel it along behind you with the retractable or zip away the rear panel to reveal hipbelt and harness for backpack-style carry. The luggage adapts to you, for example the daypack zips and clips onto the main piece for rolling around the airport, just remove it to stow the daypack with all your activity-type items under the seat in front of you, while the larger portion goes in the overhead. The inside of the luggage is panel loading, with four internal zippered pockets for organization of socks and underwear as well as internal compression straps for clothing.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved! Nice......,,,,This is bigger than I expected, in a good way. I'm 6' tall and it goes up to my knee. I love it because size is not to big and not to small. I can wear it as a backpack with it slowing me down. The straps are cleverly concealed and tucked in so roll with it. And, I won't trip over a strap. ,,,,-The quality is perfect. This is only my second Osprey ( I have a smaller one for sort hikes that hold about 2 gallons or so, of water).,,,,-I bought this in black, and it awesome. Rolls well and fits comfortable. ,,,,-This packs perfect enought for a weeks journey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best travel bag I have experienced. Just as a high quality rolling carry on this wold be worth it. Add the ability to pick it upand strapit on your back to ride the subway, climb stairs, or negotiate trails and you have a winner. The backpack that zips onto the front is nice so you can have your ipad, book, whatever with you on the plain. Though if you want to leave it zipped on to the rest of the bag it will still fit in overhead bin unless you have the thing absolutely stuffed. If you are organized you can fit a week and a half trip into this bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's an amazing bag. I wouldn't buy it from Moosejaw, though! This bag is a lot bigger than it looks. Its extremely well made and very sturdy. It's light weight and has several pockets and compartments for your things. If youre looking for a bag that has it all, you should go for this one. ,, I received my bag in a timely fashion. I opened the box to find out that one of the drawstrings on the backpack was missing. I got in contact with a rep from Moosejaw and they said if I sent the bag back, they could send me another one. With my trip coming up in two weeks, I wouldn't have enough time to send it back and then wait for the new one to come. I asked if they could just send me a drawstring so I could hook it on and that wasn't possible or an option. Bottom line, buy straight from REI or Backcountry.com, where customer service is reliable and consistent.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Osprey travel bag has shortcomings I purchased the Osprey bag a couple of weeks ago. So far, the bag has held up. However, there are some issues. First the bag does not expand from the main bag. Once the daypack is zippered in, the expansion of the 40 liter main bag is diminished. One possible solution to this is to unzip the day pack, then reconnect it using the 2 straps, and 2 buckles leaving the daypack attached without the zipper. If not for this reason, I would give the bag more stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptionally Roomy, Light & Functional. As a frequent business traveler and occasional adventurer, I recently selected the Meridian 22 as a replacement for my 25+ year old Samsonite hard-shell carry on. I just returned from an eight day mission project in the mountains near Pestel Haiti and could not have been more pleased with the performance of this pack. I'm easily able to pack the same volume as my old hard-shell plus my normal laptop and business gear in the detachable day pack. The rolling system works well on improved services and the suspension is fully adjustable and comfortable when you hit the dirt. And speaking of dirt, it spent 14 hours in the back of an open truck on this trip. The dust and exhaust grime wasn't difficult to wipe away after arrival. Even with it stuffed to capacity, the zippers were strong and tracked smoothly. The only nit I might pick would be that the fold over zipper cover on the main section was a little tight to negotiate at the top. I think this will loosen up a little after more use. But with that being said, this is a critical component that is very functional and needed. Yes, this is a relatively expensive investment for travel luggage, at least for me. But I would not hesitate to purchase it again. Both of my teammates on this trip envied it and will likely replace their current gear with a Meridian at some point. I also can't say enough about MooseJaw's customer service team. I was uncertain of the actual color of the the Patina Green version of this pack as the photos on Osprey's website didn't appear the same as those on MooseJaw's. The rep had one brought in from the warehouse, took and text pics so I could see the actual product. It doesn't get any better!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looking for this I haven't used it yet, but several family members have this and really like it. To fit through carry-on you may have to pull off the backpack portion and reattach when going to board, but that is fine.

Do the dimensions and weight provided include the day pack? If so, what are the dimensions (especially capacity) of just the larger bag? If not, what are the dimensions of the day pack?

Asked by: magnoliablues
Hey there, Thanks for the question. The measurements listed to include the day pack. The individual measurements of the day pack are 20.5 x 13 x 4 inches (height x width x depth). I hope this helps.
