Enjoy the features of a backcountry pack with the portability of a daypack with the Osprey Manta 30 Pack. Shorter trips shouldn't mean less comfort or less convenience, and this pack provides both with a molded foam backpanel and AirSpeed suspension that can be fine tuned to fit your torso, and an included 3 liter reservoir. With trekking pole and helmet attachments and plenty of pockets to hold gear, day hiking gear fits comfortably. An integrated rain cover keeps gear dry without worries in a variety of conditions and a hipbelt, compression straps and a sternum strap keep the load from shifting. Knowing whether a person prefers Triscuits or Wheat Thins is a more accurate judge of character than Zodiac signs. If this hasn't been proven already, someone should get on it.

"For organization and warm adventures, this is THE pack to get!" 08/26/11
My everyday, go-to daypack is an Osprey Talon 22. It's great for an anything and everything day. However, when I want to be efficient, hydrated, and I know exactly what I want in my pack and want to keep it organized, I go with the Manta 30. It's great for a serious warm-weather hike, such as a dayhike in the Grand Canyon, where I'll want a lot of water, food, rain gear, camera, first-aid kit, and lots of little odds and ends, and even ultra-light camping gear if I want to stay the night. For me, the Manta 20 and 25 were just too small (all of the volume is spread out through lots of smaller pockets and areas), so go for the Manta 30 for a good, all-around dayhike bag.
"The Pack You Should Own." 06/10/11
I absolutely fell in love with this pack. I use it at the ropes course I work at, and all my co-workers want one. The bite valve for the hydration reservoir is fantastic, and I love the magnetic piece on the back so it clips easily to the torso strap. The Manta is lightweight and has a great support structure, half the time I forget it's there. I love the helmet pocket, though it does make the bag quite bulky...but that's just because helmets are awkward. For day stuff, this bag is genius. A very worthwhile purchase.
"Additionally...an Amazing! book backpack too" 04/10/11
Ok so I'm a non-trad med student who's still getting used to lugging around ginormous books (a hiker/rock-climber as time permits) & I actually purchased this amazing backpack 4 all the support it would give me carrying books. It's absolutely perfect for this! I take out hydraulics bag & use the front two pockets for my med texts and pocket guides...the pack expands well & I have the AMAZING support of the waist & additnl chest strap to take the wt off my shoulders when I want. It's built to last & all the additional side pockets are a huge plus. (oh, and I loooove the pull-out rain cover) To those who also are looking for a back-friendly book pack (also) this little gem is fab! Peace.
"Great All Around Pack" 11/07/10
This pack is a stand in for my warm weather mountain bike/day pack. I carry a few extra 911 items when it gets cold. I was going to buy the Manta 20 or 25, but the extreme curve of the frame decreases the interior capacity, and the layout on the 25 is inefficient, so I bought the 30 M/L (5'10" 175lbs w/ a longish torso) which is well thought out and still cinches down to a low profile. I am able to comfortably fit a full reservoir, repair kit (inflator, extra CO2, two tubes, patches, and tools), rain/wind layer, light fleece layer, and an emergency kit (hand warmers, e-blanket, lighter, and energy bars). After many crashes, tree branches and an endo here and there it's still in great shape.

"Incredible Pack - Perfect for just about everything!" 09/16/10
I told my wife this looked like a great pack, and she then surprised me with it one day. I used it the following weekend on a quick overnight trip, and it was just as useful as expected, if not more so. It has tons of room, lots of pockets, including two expandable stuff pockets, the Osprey bladder system is by far the best I've used, the hip belt pockets are of course a great addition, and I especially love the top pocket that is lined with a soft material making it perfect for stowing sunglasses and/or a cell phone. Overall, this pack is deceptively big and I haven't found one thing that I don't love about it. I highly recommend getting it, no matter what your experience level may be.

"Fantastic bag!!!" 07/31/10
Through-biked the Colorado Trail in two weeks with Manta. Carried 15-18 lbs of gear and full water reservoir. Overstuffed, the bag became slightly uncomfortable to wear. Didn't know it was there most of the time. Several big crash landings on the bag, the lightweight material held up well with only slight scuffing of the surface with no holes. The built-in rain fly was fantastic for protecting the bag but doesn’t protect the hip-belt pockets. Compression straps, suspension and harness held the bag comfortably tight and gear secure even when aggressively riding. The reservoir was easy to fill, remove and replace in a full pack.Fantastic bag for any day trip whether hiking or biking.

"Well thought-out day hiker / light overnight!" 04/18/10
I was also considering the Gregory Z30. Ventilation is good with the arched frame. This isn't a limp pack like many small packs! Magnetic bite valve is introduced at the cost of removing the sternum buckle whistle :(. The padded stash pocket keeps eye protection scratch free. The rigid hyrdo-form bladder is easy to handle while refilling, but its not as rigid as Osprey claims. With a fully loaded pack and bladder, there is a bulge against your back. Everything was fine after a liter was consumed. The stow-and-go trekking poles is welcome when you are dealing with varied terrain here in PA. I wish the compression straps had the option of passing through the pockets. Overall, great pack!
