"This is a WONDEFUL pack that holds up well and is perfect for weeklong treks."  03/02/12

Taking this pack on a 19 day hike in Pennsylvania and New York, the durability and versatility of this pack became known. I could easily carry all my personal gear along with half of the group gear. Pros- Lightweight - Durable - Roomie - Temp. Proof - Adjustable Hip and Shoulder Straps - Very good for price Cons- Cheap Strapping

"Comfortable Day Pack!"  02/23/12

I have used this for numerous day hikes and climbs, and have found it to be extremely comfortable. Not big enough for multi day trips, as you would probably fill over half of it with a sleeping bag, but it's the perfect size for a full day. I even took it full of gear to the top of Mt. Borah and it never once bothered me.

"Great alternative for few days if you are sharing gear with a loved one or friend"  01/31/12

As a couple or 2 friends if each of you has one of these, they make the perfect combination for a few days of adventures without getting into bigger, bulkier packs. We split the tent, sleeping pads....and wine bottles. They are not too big, great support, doesn't hurt your back and extremely resistant. We also love the rain jacket, especially useful when tropical rain starts pouring and there is no shelter...I highly recommend this pack for:2-3 days backpacking as single3-5 days backpacking as double (2 packs)(Between hardcore lightweight configurations and weight-conscious configurations)

"GREAT DAYPACK"  01/16/12

I bought this as a day pack. I have a North Face Crestone 75L for multiday trips but needed a good day pack. This pack is terrific. It vents well against the back, has trekking pole loops, hip belt pockets and a built in rain cover. What more could you want? With about 20lbs, I almost forget that I'm wearing it. I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't replace my North Face 75L with another Osprey pack.

"Great day pack"  12/24/11

I bought this pack as a day pack. It is just the right size with all the best features. I love the trekking pole attachment and the zippered pockets on the hip belt. It vents well and is light weight. I would not haul a lot of weight with it but it works great for 20 lbs or so.

"Great pack, 1 flaw"  12/23/11

I now own 4 Osprey packs but this one has one major annoyance. The airscape frame system is fantastic, rides very comfy. I was spoiled with the rain cover with my last pack that I now expect the rain cover on all my packs. My complaint with this pack is the top bag. It is basically worthless in my opinion. The elastic is so tight that it makes it very difficult to stretch and if the bag isn't full, it doesn't sit right on top. I found it hard to store anything in it. I wish it was detachable too.It really has nice features and rides nice but the top bag really is a downer on an otherwise great bag.

"Great Weekend/ Big Day pack"  11/06/11

I use this pack a lot for snowshoeing and short overnight trips. the size is perfect for your winter layers, food, first aid and any extras you might want. It is also great for overnight trips. I can fit extra clothes, food for a few days, my Tarptent Moment, Marmot Trestles 15 sleeping bag and a small first aid kit in it. sleeping pad straps to bottom very easily. Handles a hydration bladder fairly well. but i recommend the osprey bladder with its ridged back panel as barreling is very noticable with the external bladder pocket.there is a decent amount of attachment points to hang gear off the sides. Durability has been great in the year that i have owned it.

"Best Multi Day Pack Ever"  10/20/11

This pack is the perfect size for when you are going on a long day hike or a short multiday hike. Has lots of pockets that are easily accessible. Love the trekking pole attachment for quick access without taking the pack off. The attached raincover is also a great convenience. Super comfortable fut. Osprey makes quality stuff and I look at lots of other companies but always come back to them. They stand by their guarantee

"This is whats up"  07/25/11

I think, the leading producer of backpacks. There were a few things that lead me to a Kestrel 38. The hip belt has good airflow, along with the back. The pack is adjustable via Velcro, so changing during a trip is made easy, even during a water break. The pack comes with it's own rain cover. This is something that I think sets this above others. It is formed to the pack, and it has its own latching and pocket, so I always know where it is. Zippers are not waterproofed, however, the pack is designed in a way that no zipper is exposed. There is no place where you are clueless on what goes there. If I am backpacking anywhere for up to four days, this is my choice in bag.

"Great long day and weekend pack."  06/22/11

I bought this pack looking for something to take mainly on long day trips. It has been perfect for just that. It easily has enough space to fit everything you would ever want for a day hike. I liked that this pack comes with a rain cover because I have really bad luck with weather. Since I stand at about 6ft 3in I bought the M/L size and it fits me great. I love that I can open this pack from the bottom to get something out that I know is at the bottom of my pack without unloading the entire contents of my pack. I also like that there are pockets right on the hip belt so I can store my camera and snap a quick picture on the fly without stopping to get it out of my pack.

"Great all around pack."  04/01/11

This is a great pack. If you wanna go on a dayhike or overnighter it will do the job. Compresses really good. The adjustable torso is a plus.

"Love this pack more than my last one."  03/20/11

I bought this to replace my switch 25 +5 that was stolen last summer (along with years of gear i had spent hundreds of dollars aquiring and depended on). Upon reception of this new kestrel, i realized IMMEDIATELY that this pack was my switch on steroids and a facelift. The included rain cover is super clutch as i definitely had many days with wet gear....which sucks. But, the lightweight, super diverse utility of this pack will make it a cinch to cover all the uses from a day hike to even a week excursion (if theres a buddy or two to share some weight or i dont mind stinking a bit...ok, a lot.i know it is worth more than what i paid.
