Osprey Airscape

Osprey Airscape
Osprey's AirScape™ mesh covered ridge foam backpanels set a new standard in the industry. With its ability to keep the weight close, provide cushion, allow ventilation and add load carry is quite a list of needs from this unassuming backpanel. It successfully accomplished all of that in a way that allows it to be used in the large gear hauling packs and lightweight day hiking packs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent functionality and capacity for day hikes in any season Just completed the 4 day Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu with this bag, with great results.,,Pack contained all daily essentials + hydration (carried 2-24 oz. bottles). My wife carried a smaller capacity version (Kestrel 28) and she too loves her pack.,,,,BTW, if you've ever considered doing this trek, you need to,,understand if you can adapt to heavy physical exertion at altitude,,,be in excellent physical condition, and be prepared for arduous,,hiking - the trail is mostly stone with very high steps (20" plus) and,,you need quality hiking boots that provide excellent stability. The ,,hike kicked my ass but it was worth it. I'm 63 years old....just sayin'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For anyone who wants one of the most solid, well made, best organized packs, this is the one. I do quite a bit of hiking and bouldering, and I recently bought this pack to take to Turner Falls last week. All I can say is WOW! If you are questioning the difference between a casual backpack and a hiking pack, make the jump and buy this! I did a 15 mile hike, and it felt like the pack wasn't even there. Osprey is one of the top companies in the backpack business, and there warranty is without doubt the best. The pack is made out of top quality materials, and all the features are well thought out and usable, opposed to other bags with have useless features. The bag is more on the expensive side, but for what you are getting, it is unbeatable. It is bigger than a daypack, but probably not much more then that. If you can get past that, it excels for one day hikes, summit ascents, etc. Outstanding, and I will be buying from Osprey in the future.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent pack Bought this pack to mainly do overnight hikes, day hikes, and also for school use. The material this is made with is very sturdy. Really enjoy having the waist straps with extra pockets to stuff in a phone or any snacks on the trail. Had a little difficulty fitting a large sleeping bag in with my other gear but that was to be expected with the size of the pack. Good back pack especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the pack Love the pack! If anything it is a bit too big for what I usually carry but I like having a sturdy hip belt and the smaller packs just don't offer that feature. When my shoulders get sore - especially on the way out after a hiking 15-25 miles in the Adirondacks it feels good to just release the shoulder straps and letting the entire pack rest on my hips for a little while. Also, while it is a little large, the top and bottom compression straps keep the load snug and in place. I tried on more than two dozen packs and this one just felt right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great day pack im 5 10 but i have a long torso i got the m/l it fit great on lowest adjustment, it was great for a day pack but left me wanting for overnight. i have a kestrel 48 ordered to replace it, i have not used a hydration pack with it. but have one coming with my 48. it seems like if you had a lot of money and was well prepared and organized you could fit a sleeping bag a tent a few clothes food water and a FEW odds and ends. but i dont and am not so im getting a bigger pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would Buy it again and Recommend it! I have to let you know I am happy with the pack! I have used it a few time and I'm telling you it comfortable. I am a very broad shouldered person with a longer torso, most pack day pack do not conform to. I have spent this winter looking for a day pack and I could not find one to fit properly and comfortably. Researching I came across the Kestel 32 and a few folks with similar problems highly recommend it. BUT be warned of the same problems they stated and I am passing on, the STRAPS they are not long enough! You cannot wear anything more that a NANO style or FLEECE jacket! I wish all day-pack would adapt the adjustable torso system and have longer straps. Only reason I can't give it 5 star is for the only two things I find missing with this pack.1 and Very VERY important to me is the Straps they are to short!!!!! 2nd extra front pocket for smalls item and storage. Besides those two issues I have, this is a great pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great weekend pack Perfect size and features for me using it as a weekend summer pack. Can stuff stove, sleeping bag, tent, and food inside it. A decent number of attachment points on the outside work well for a pad, poles, and water. If you have a synthetic sleeping bag you might want to go up a bit in pack size for overnight trips or you can rig it to the outside.

It is always store close to my front door with misc gear stowed in it. Travel back and forth between states and it always rolls with me wherever.
