The Osprey Kestrel 28 Backpack is a large daypack ideal for long day adventures or light overnights. This top-loading backpack with mesh side pockets and a bungee daisies on the back can hold plenty of gear for trekking for the day. All of your gear will remain nice and dry thanks to the integrated raincover. And don't forget to hydrate: this backpack is hydration compatible. Get it in the color that matches your eyes. "make sure you get an updated model" 10/03/11
I've had my Kestral 28 for about a year. I really do like the pack, but the backpanel bent& I got this awful ridge in it that would press against my back. I sent it back to Osprey for a repair & they sent me an entirely new Kestral 28. I noticed something different about it. The backpanel was much stronger. I contacted Osprey & they told me they redesigned all of their Kestral line with a stronger backpanel. (They have not mentioned this on their website yet.)So how do you know if you got a good one? Look at the place where the chest strap attaches to the pack. If the slots are gray, it's new; if they are black, it's old.

I have had this pack for almost a year now. I love it! The features are really great and it's super comfortable.I really overpacked it once on a three day, 28 mile hike, and it did surprisingly well. I've been really happy with it. The quality is good. If you put the red rain cover on and hike with it, you look like a ninja turtle.The only down side is that I bent the plastic insert in the lumbar part of the pack because I was hauling over 40 lbs in it once. This isn't recommended, but it did work. I am in the really easy process of sending it back to Osprey for a quick repair. My fault and they will still fix it for free! That's the All Mighty Guarantee.
"Perfect size" 05/14/11
Wanted a pack that would be good for day hikes, but that was a little larger than your average day pack. This was it. Love the camelbak compartment and pockets on waist belt. Sometimes wish there was an internal hard frame, but then it wouldn't be as easy to store.

This is a super pack at a great price! It was very comfortable to wear, and I absolutely loved the underflap mesh pocket that kept my passport valuable-bits from being nabbed on long train rides. I also really liked the easy access waist pockets--they made getting to phones/ cameras super easy! This is the perfect pack for light-travel!

I was a little disappointed by the coloring of the pack. I ordered it in Lichen green and was expecting it to look like the picture, but the coloring was very different. Instead of having beige in the center, it's a light green, and instead of being a soft green on the outside green, it's a dark, almost hunter green. The quality of the pack is still what I expected, the color just threw me off.
"Great Pack" 07/14/09
The Osprey Kestrel 28 Backpack is by far the best pack one could buy. Easy lightweight and durable, great for a long weekend in the alps. Being stationed in germany with the US Army gives me time to explore and its a great fun world of hiking and climbing around here. this pack has made it through alot and its still kicking.

Like the 38, which I can not say enough good things about, the 28 has some nice features like Stow-on-the-go, and Rain Cover. The down side of this pack is the lack of Frame work, it tends to fold in the middle, making it very uncomfortable, and it does not stand up when you take it off. I have tried several adjustments and cannot seem to get the bend out of the middle of the pack. It almost seems to long not to have a frame. When I received the pack it was folded in two, and I was real worried that the rods were bent, however there were no rods to bend. The Kestrel 38 has a Steel Spring Rod Frame that is so nice, and I talking with Osprey Company the 32 has the Frame Rods too.

Great pack for everyday hiking & short camping trips. I also use the pack for textbooks and laptop when riding my bike to school. Harness is comfortable and adjusts well and the integrated rain cover is awesome and has come in handy for unexpected afternoon showers.
