The Osprey Farpoint 80 Travel Pack is a large luggage for traveling far. One part luggage, one part backpack, to be exact. When you're on the move, open up the stowaway section and slip into the shoulder harness and hipbelt. It'll transfer the weight to your hips so you can manage carrying the load from place to place in search of your next hostel. When you're on the train or riding the bus, the harness and hipbelt can be zipped away, where they won't get torn or ripped off due to bumping around next to other luggage. Inside there is plenty of space for your clothing, extra shoes and yes, even a few souvenirs.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I tried this and found it comfortable and well designed. It could be perfect if you would come up with a Lightweight, Compactable, Strong, Removable wheel assembly that can be used on cobblestone streets and dirt roads. Maybe 4 or 5 inch wheels. This would become my main luggage for frequent air trips. I'd get a roll aboard size for most trips but I'd also get a large one for my diving, climbing, fishing equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Bag I purchased this bag in June of 2015 and took it with me on a month and a half long trip across Morocco and Europe. This is an amazing backpack with the perfect amount of room. Between the main pack and the zip-off day pack, I was covered for this trip. The only other thing I brought with me was a small cross-body bag. I went on numerous flights, train rides, and bus trips and this bag held up beautifully. I even checked the larger pack and it survived baggage and baggage claim. My little brother bought the same bag and was able to take it carry on for his flight to Europe. My bag is still just like new and I plan on using it again when I return to Europe in May. I found this size perfect for me, not too much to carry around but this of course depends on how much you pack. Several of my family members and friends plan on buying the same bag after hearing my experiences with it and seeing the bag for themselves. I have heard/read that some prefer the smaller 55 packs for travel but for my needs this was perfect. I did not find it too cumbersome and it was relatively easy to carry around for hours on end and to keep track of in hostels/on transportation. In addition, when I went into the store I had no clue what I was doing when it came to finding a backpack. The staff at Rochester Hills, MI Moosejaw blew me away with their help. They did a great job assisting me as I searched for the best pack and correct size. I highly recommend both this bag and that Moosejaw location.

Is the difference between the S/M and M/L just the Liter size?  Or is it also an important consideration for body size?  I would like the 80L capacity but my shoulders and body size are small.  Is the M/L only for larger people?

Asked by: angela16
Hey there, Thanks for the awesome question! The difference between the S/M and the M/L is the torso length. the S/M is good for people with a torso length of 15-19 inches. The M/L is good for people with a torso length of 18-22 inches. I hope this helps!

What is the capacity on the farpoint 80 travel pack? What is the difference between the farpoint 55, 70 and 80?

Asked by: Paulie
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. The Small/Medium size of the Farpoint 80 of this pack is 76 L and the M/L is 80L. It can carry a load between 20-50 lbs. The difference between the Farpoint 55, 70, and 80 is their capacity. I hope this helps!
