Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great carry on pack! This is a rad bag! I recently used this on a short trip as my only bag. Was able to fit all my clothes, a jacket, shoes and climbing gear with room to spare. Definitely carry on compliant , no issues with the size even when fully loaded to the max. Got to walk right past all those people with the dorky rolling bags getting asked to check their bags at the gate. When not fully loaded, will fit under the seat. Backpack straps are super comfy and used the bag as a day pack on short hikes. Overall great carry on pack. Only issue is the two slots for water bottles can't be used when the pack is more than half full. Also, if you have a laptop it sits toward the outside of the pack instead of against the back. Not as protected. Well built and another great Osprey pack!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely a great purchase! In my opinion, this bag is perfect for travel, whether it be for weekend trips or for a couple weeks (as long as you pack lightly). Its main compartment has ample space, and its laptop/tablet pocket is definitely useful. (I personally don't mind the laptop pocket being toward the front of the bag.) The straps can be tucked into the back of the bad, which is also a great feature; it serves as either a backpack or a duffle bag, so you can easily use it as a carry-on piece of luggage if you are bringing another small backpack on your trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good travel pack I bouht this pack for a trip to Europe. I have trepedations about it being sufficient for more than a week of travel. It is a relativeley svelte pack. I like that it zips all the way open to pack like a suitcase. There are pockets to keep things separated. The materials and construction are good. Dislikes: the compression straps go across the back and make the water bottle pockets somewhat useless for putting a bottle in and out. The straps also wrench down across the small pockets in the front pocket, presumably crushing them and putting pressure across your tablet, if you packed it in the tablet sleeve. Traditional compression straps that pullled the sides of the pack closer to the back panel would have made more sense. Good bag for carry-on travel. Well made and good suspension system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes travelling easy Used this pack for world travel, so I can keep all my stuff with me and not have to hassle with checked bags and the like. I really dig this backpack, and would recommend it for anyone wanting to travel light. As a bonus in life's lottery, I also have to travel with an oxygen concentrator, which is moved around via a roller frame, plus its required battery supply, so it is really useful to be able to carry my personal stuff in a light, well fitting fashion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed! I spent weeks comparing carry-on size bags via online reviews and videos. One of the things I learned is there are a lot of choices many of which would make excellent choices. After borrowing it down to just a few I decided to give the Osprey Farpoint 40 a try first being that Moosejaw was offering an amazing deal. I have not looked back and am very happy with my purchase as Im getting ready for my year long SE Asia tour.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect size/comfort for traveling Europe Have been traveling with this for a week so far and it's been perfect-- love that you can load from the top like a backpack or the front like a suitcase. It also has great support in the waistband and pack compressors, though I do wonder if the waistband is too high. Anyways, highly recommend. It's perfect sized for extremely budget airlines and solid for carrying loads for long periods of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative to a roller wheel suitcase I don't like to pack a checked bag. I want to be mobile and be able to just go when I get off the plane and this bag allows me to do that. I can carry it as a backpack or use the shoulder strap, either way it gives me the mobility I desire. I bought this bag for a two week adventure in India and it was everything I wanted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If the price is right buy it, if the price isn't right, buy it. I have been waiting several months to pick up this bag, and it has been well worth the wait.,,,,With regards to travelling, there are no complaints. The main compartment is front loading and has compression straps to secure your belongings and ensure airline compliance. The backpack straps (arm and hip) can be zipped up, allowing you to tote the Farpoint like suitcase. Although not mentioned, this current model includes a removable shoulder strap and latch points at opposite ends of the handle (not shown in product display) - a nice option if you don't want to use the straps or handle!,,,,There is a zipper sleeve in the main compartment for a laptop (13.3 inch roughly), however the secondary padded compartment is more suitable. ,,If you plan on using this pack for daily use (ex. university), it may be wise to invest in some packing cubes for utilities since there are no additional pockets in the main compartment.,,,,The Farpoint 40 exceeded my expectations.,,No buyers remorse here!

what size in the osprey Fairpoint 40 should I get for someone 5'3", 114 lbs, but with a long torso? This is for a student traveling abroad for the semester who will likely make long weekend and week trips throughout Europe. Thanks!

Asked by: sheryl
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. Even with the long torso, for that height, I would say go with the small/medium. That should be a perfect fit! Hope this helped you out.
