Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've had numerous but this is the best Have traveled with backpacks for 40+ years but this is the best pack I've ever had. I did a lot of research before buying this, and it turned out to be perfect for the type of travel I do....international, fairly lengthy, and pretty active. I can only assume that whoever designed it has traveled extensively like I have. I object to a whole bunch on unnecessary straps, zippers, or little pockets....I've even been known to cut showy, weighty things off brand new packs...but this pack hits just the right balance of features, security, and size/weight. The fact that it's carry-on compatible on most scheduled air carriers is just a bonus. A wonderful backpack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great bag with one major flaw.. I used this pack for the 6 month trip through central and south america, plus a bit of europe. I absolutely loved the pack in all ways except for the laptop/tablet pocket. While its great that it's padded, having it on the front is completely the wrong spot. When you fill your pack the front of the pack is curved, which puts pressure on the tablet. This mean i had a cracked screen as it bent slightly in the bag, making it unusable just 1 month into my trip, and 400 bucks down the drain :( Apart from this, it's still a great pack, and if they fix this flaw I would definitely buy the next version. Until i'll use a different option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best carry-on travelpack I have ever used. This bag is an all-round solid bag for folks who like to travel light. It is highly adjustable with an excellent hip belt for carrying all day long. It is lightweight, attractive, and flies under the radar as it is carry-on compatible. I use one large and two medium packing cubes to keep my clothes organized inside, but am blown away by how much this bag fits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased with the Farpoint 40 I purchased the Farpoint 40 after doing extensive research. I have five other Osprey packs and wanted one for minimalist traveling. I was introduced to carry on only travel several years ago and have used a couple of different packs, the ebags TLS Mother Load and the Osprey Porter 46. Both bags have their strengthens and held up well, but I wanted something a bit smaller yet not too small. The Farpoint is for my traveling needs the perfect size. Typical of Osprey products it is solidly constructed and very comfortable to carry. I am super pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have travel backpack Needed a versatile carry-on bag for my short trips. After exhausting research, I ended up purchasing a red Osprey Farpoint 40 from Moosejaw recently. Money well spent. Just got back from my 5 day trip to Toronto, Canada using this bag only, all my clothes plus laptop fit nicely. Very comfortable to carry due to its thick padding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellence I bought two Opsrey backpacks--the Farpoint 40 and the Ozone 46. My 13 year old son carried the Farpoint and I carried the Ozone for a three week trip through Italy. Both packs worked great for us, but we both preferred the Farpoint. It turns out we didn't need all the pockets on the Ozone. The Farpoint you can open like a suitcase and that is really helpful for packing. It seemed more compact for traveling but also seemed to hold as much stuff. The one think I liked better on the Ozone was the easy access iPad pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Bag, Neon Green Inside I purchased the M/L to get the correct torso length as well as the full 40 liters. I like this updated bag because it has the Osprey logo at the top, but not all over. The top handle says Osprey, the front strap says Osprey, and the back has says Farpoint 40. The first thing that surprised me is the majority of the interior is neon green. I put a 20 oz Klean Kanteen bottle in one of the outside water bottle holders, flipped the bag around, and the bottle fell out. I started out buying backpacking bags, like the Gregory Baltoro 65, then 75, then the Arc'teryx Altra 65. I read horrible reviews on other sites about the Baltoro waist belt and Gregory service, and although the Arc'teryx bag was super nice and well fitting, my main concerns were the waist belt getting crushed during travel (other retailers sent me the bag and the belt was already partially crushed on the Altra when it arrived), and the shipping cost of returning the bags to the companies if they ever needed repair. I went on a quest to find the ultimate bag for my needs, and I hears Osprey stands behind their bags. My next step was to go insane watching YouTube videos on how to pack and not lose every cent buying enough packing cubes. I had 12 (yes, 12) stuff sacks. It made me insane, so I sold most of my belongings, purchased just 4 packing cubes, bought packable clothing, and now use this 40 liter bag every day. Plus the 40 liter attracts less attention.
