Product Technology: Osprey Peripheral Frame
Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Expansion The Daylite is AMAZING! It attaches right to my Aether and it fits together so well, my wife she couldn't tell it was there. This thing is great to bear bag your food and throw in a tree, has an airflow back panel, even a hydration pouch. Very durable and it even fits me at 6'5, 330lb, and most day packs like this end up not fitting me right, this pack fits me quite well. It is a great expansion to the Aether. My stuff is bigger since I am a big dude, so the extra space this gives you it Awesome. With not many external pockets on the Aether, this adds two as well as mesh external pockets. Bottom line, and at $50 you can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great addition to a great backpack which allowed my spiffy self to look spiffier! Bought this thing before a 3 night backpack in New Mexico. I bought it to attach as an accessory on my Osprey Aether 70 pack. I wanted it because I hate taking the top off of my pack to use as a fanny pack. (they never fit worth a crap) It attached easy to my backpack, held my bladder, was comfortable when worn alone, and held as much stuff as i needed (camera, jacket, first aid kit and other essentials) when I wanted to venture away from camp but not take a whole backpack. Of course Moosejaw got it to me quickly with a kiss to boot!! Don't know if I would like this for 12 mile hikes, but as an add on or as a short hike or park hike it is great!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome! This Pack is great on its own as it is approximately 750 cubic inches in volume, which does great in holding my rain gear, pots, 3 liter hydration pack, batteries, camera, ipod, 20 oz. nalgene bottle, cap, gloves, socks, and lunch with room to spare. It is also a wonderful addition to my Osprey Aether 85. The only complaint is that it should have an easier, more secure way of fastening onto a larger pack, but I can work around this nitpick. The pack will increase the capacity of compatible Osprey bags, as well as make them look much bigger, which made it much easier to pack things with my Osprey Aether 85. Big Ups!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits the bill for wherever I need it! Bought this daypack to take on my latest vacation. Needed something smaller than my porter but bigger than a purse. Decided to break it in on our saturday afternoon hikes and don't know why I didn't think to get one sooner. Strapped it to the luggage rack on the motorcycle and almost lost it when the bungee cord we were using broke, tire burned a hole right thru it! But I LOVE the Osprey Almighty Gurantee!!!! Sent it back patched. All I have left to do is get a reservoir and I'll be good to go (my water bottles refuse to stay in the side pockets... course it might help if I stopped sliding down the hill, my brother-in-laws idead of shortcut is usually up a 90 degree slope!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful daypack! Perfect for day time outtings, or as an overnight bag. I got this bag as a bonus when I got my backpacking bag, and I LOVE IT. I use this way more than I ever thought I would. It's nice and compact, and yet can fit a TON of stuff. I've been able to use it as an overnight bag when staying over at friend's places. Have been able to fit a day or two of clothes, toiletries, and a lightweight sleeping bag in it. It really is deceiving how much stuff can fit in this little thing. It was also and invaluable day pack on my trip to Peru. I was able to fit all my hiking essentials, like water, sunblock and snacks, as well as an extra jacket and poncho. Get this bag!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome I got it as an add on for my Aether 85 but it was good timing cause my book bag fell apart the same week. since then I use it for everything from long trips to day trips to everyday at school. It holds way more than you would think from looking at it. The only draw back is the side compression straps. They expand well but they make putting things like my books or laptop into the top pocket. If they came with buckles for quick release that would make this pack perfect. And ending on a good note as long as it can still function as a pack I don't think I'll be needing to buy another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Day hiking/cycling/gym bag Don't let the size or shoulder straps fool you, this bag is super versatile and mega comfy. Large main pouch allows for carrying just about anything... extra set(s) of clothes, climbing gear (minus rope), blanket/towel and food... this thing is pretty awesome, and it has a smaller pouch where you can store your keys/wallet/phone/small first aid kit. Not to mention the large side pockets (they carry my climbing shoes after a good session), and large water bladder pouch. Also, no matter how much you stuff in the pack, the shoulder straps don't cut into you at all... awesome!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light & comfortable! I bought the Daylite to replace an 1800cu in REI pack I'd used for several years as my dayhiking pack. This is smaller and lighter, it feels like it's almost not there, which is just what I wanted.,,,,The only downside is that I like wearing it high on my back, and that Osprey curve fits so nicely there... But then you lose that nice ventilation gap. I have to lower it further down my back to get the gap, and then it doesn't hug your back. I wish it would somehow do both, but being able to do either (and switching takes just seconds) is good enough.
