The Osprey Comet 30 Pack is an everyday pack for school, work, and day hiking on the weekends. The zippered laptop sleeve steers clear of the rest of your pack, keeping your pricey electronic safe in it's very own padded section. A padded tablet sleeve is also available so the smaller machine won't go bouncing around unprotected. The large main section fits your books, jacket, and lunch, making up the majority of the 30 liters of total space. Organize pens, cords, calculator and more in the front organizational pocket and then your sunglasses will be scratch free in the small stash pocket. Space for everything and side mesh pockets for your water.

OSPREY MEASUREMENT GUIDE
Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.
HOW TO MEASURE TORSO LENGTH:
• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.
HOW TO MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE:
• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

So glad we found thisMy son needed a new backpack when he started middle school this September. They have to carry around a 3 inch binder every day so we were having trouble finding a backpack in local stores that was large enough to fit that binder plus lunch box, extra shoes, jacket, etc. but wasn't too enormous or heavy. He, being a brand conscious 6th grader, wanted North Face.
I found and ordered two nice looking North Face backpacks on the Moosejaw website and also stumbled upon this Osprey Comet option which was on sale. I wasn't familiar with their products but after watching a favorable Youtube video review from a dude who seems quite dedicated to reviewing backpacks, I decided to give it a try too. When I showed my son a photo of this one before the ordered arrived he said, "Why did you order that one? I'm not interested."
But when they all arrived and he tried them out (putting in all of his stuff and seeing if they were comfortable to carry around) the Osprey was hands down the winner. He really liked the look (and I guess the giant logo) of one of the North Face bags, but even he noticed the attention to detail and sturdy construction of the Osprey.
He loves all the cool features (compression straps, comfortable padding, fancy zipper pulls, nooks and crannies in "organization panel" plus cute little sunglass compartment to stash his bus pass in and so on). He is really excited about it and just said this morning, "I think this bag will probably last all through middle school, but if I need a new one for high school or college can we get another from this same brand?" I'd be fine with that - we spent more money on the Osprey (even on sale) than I had planned, but in the past I've purchased cheaper backpacks and ended up having to replace them every year, so ultimately I think this is a good investment.
