"Extremely light- it contours to my back perfectly."
I ordered this pack from moosejaw cause I've had good experiences with them. I took it to REI right away to get a professional in-person opinion on the fit- the people at REI helped me out with great service. My torso is about 18-19 inches, I went with a small- and it fits me great. I just wish this pack came with a pack cover. Next week I'm starting a two week backpacking adventure- can't wait to strap this thing on and get moving! I love how light it is.
I am an avid rock climber and an occasional backpacker.I love this pack. It is perfect for what I do. In the sleeping back compartment, I can fit my 70 meter rope. Then on top of that, I can fit my entire trad rack, 16 sport climbing quickdraws, a few pairs of shoes, a harness, and extras for the new people that are tagging along. Even with this, I have plenty of room for food and luxuries like a hammock. The 70 liter is the perfect size for this. If I need the pack to be smaller, it cinches up great. This has all the extra pockets that I want and none of the extras. The suspension is great too. it took some time to get adjusted, but when i got it locked in, it was super comfortable. I haven't taken it on any long backpacking trips, but it did treat me well while bush wacking for 5 hours in the rain at the Red River Gorge. I only wish it came with a rain cover. That is sold separately.I am 5'10" and 175 lbs. I went with the Medium because of my 30 to 32 inch waist. Perfect sizing
Sure... it weighs a bit more than a lot of packs out there, BUT!!! it carries like a dream. Definitely get fitted (as with any pack) before purchasing. I'm a tall dude, but medium torso is plenty for me. Cannot say enough great things about this pack. Highly recommended.
this is my third osprey pack, and let me tell you, these packs are built to make a 40 lb load feel like 20. First, the harness and hip belt are exceptionally padded and the hip belt pockets are very roomy and useful. The zippered lid pocket could be the most useful pocket of all though, it can support any of the gear needed for a trip. The straight jacket compression system is a key reason the pack carries so well. The sleeping bag compartment fits a light sleeping bag in compression sack. The interior of the pack is very spacious but i would recommend the aether 85 for extended trips. The sizing is a little complicated, but a good outdoors store can fit you just right.
I bought two of these several years ago one for my husband and myself. This can certainly pack a ton of things! We use this for hiking in the big horns over the weekend and constantly for grocery shopping. The bottom portion and top portion of this bag hold a lot. two egg cartons fit nicely in the top section and about 3 cabbages in the bottom pouch. I'm still trying to figure out the best way for the straps to avoiding pinching in the collar bones; however, my husband has no problems with his so obviously I'm doing something wrong even though I switched to women shoulder and hip straps.
I took this pack on a February 2014 winter camping and cross-country skiing trip to Glacier National Park. I didn't get the belt heat molded, but I did break in the pack before taking it along, and even with my heavy load it was quite comfortable. The suspension does a great job of transferring the weight to my hips even with a 50+ pound load. The stretch mesh pocket on the back works great for holding quick-access items, and the straps are adjustable enough that I was able to mount the top compartment (the one that doubles as a fanny pack) over the mesh pocket rather than on top of the pack, so that I could wear my wide-brimmed hat. The numerous loops come in handy for strapping on a variety of additional equipment. The stretch mesh pockets on the sides are large enough to hold some small pieces of equipment in the bottom and still hold a 32-oz Nalgene bottle securely.
I picked up this pack before I went backpacking around Ecuador. Since then, I've used it for everything from weekend backpacking trips, hitching down the west coast, and week long backcountry trips. There is so much room that if you fill it, you are going to be carrying a very very heavy load. Not many pockets but if you put everything in stuff sacks, you can stay organized.
Let's forget the fact that I got this backpack on sale. If I knew what I know now, I would have paid full price plus. Adjustability was key for me when I was looking for a backpack and this Osprey delivered. I put 30 lbs of gear in the pack and spent about 2 hours adjusting and tweaking the pack. Lots of room as well. I am up to 40 lbs in the pack now and there still is little room left. I got the waist belt heat fitted and all I know is that the 40 lbs I had on felt like 25 lbs. Comfort is huge for me and this Backpack rocks!
I have gone on several trips with this pack. I typically care ~35 pounds or so, but have carried as much as 45. The 70L has a LOT of storage. I sometimes don't even use compression sacks just to fill out some of the space in the pack. This pack has a lot of features and compartments like the hydration pack compartment and trekking pole holder. I really like the straight jacket design of the outside straps. You can really compress this pack down when you are carrying a lot of gear. This pack is also pretty comfortable too. The airflow design on the back really helps out with sweat buildup. The shoulder straps are fantastic. This pack really has several straps to get the fitting just right. I'd highly recommend this pack for anyone!
