FEATURES of the Nemo Astro Insulated Lite 20R Sleeping Pad
Ultra-light, ultra-packable and extremely comfortable, the Astro Lite pads use our ultralight Airlock Elite 20D Polyester fabric to virtually disappear into your pack
3 Inches thick lateral baffles are plush and tend to support body contours better than vertical baffles because the sleeping pad resists folding around the body's longitudinal axis
The pillow baffle at the head end is oversized to provide extra loft under your head and prevents your camp pillow from sliding off the end of the pad
Astro insulated uses a unique manufacturing process to bond a layer of primaloft synergy to the exterior laminate fabric for consistent and even insulation coverage
Unlike typical vertical baffles, lateral baffles prevent the sides of the sleeping pad from curving around your body
Large pillow baffle at the head end of the pad ensures that your pillow doesn't slide off in the middle of the night and gives a couple extra inches of height for supreme sleeping comfort
Packed size of Astro series sleeping pads in comparison to a camp stove

New ownerI received this as a birthday gift in prep for an upcoming backpacking trip and just had the chance to test it out- It packed up so small! (especially compared to my giant previous sleeping mat), is easy and quick to inflate, and--- most importantly, was very comfortable! My husband has heard me complain about my hips hurting while camping (side sleeper), did his research and chose the Nemo brand with this in mind. One use in, I am very happy

Comfortable but not for snowI bought this because it felt the most comfortable mat I'd tried. I am a side sleeper and liked the way it curved when I rolled over. I was considering this against the exped downmat and felt this more comfortable. I have now used it on 2 trips (6 nights) in the snow (-2 to 3c in tent), -6c outside and on 4mm foam tent carpet. I was advised this would be ok due to the rating of -5 to -9c. I found though I felt cold from below which affected my sleep.
I made my own snozzle pump of plastic tubing as the breath in the mat froze but I still had to top up with breath: I think it's poor that there's no pump available when this is rated to below zero.
This is my biggest gripe and hence low score as this is what I bought it for. In terms of positives, I found it comfortable and I like the pillow. It's reasonably light and packs small, but I'd not buy an insulated version for non snow camp so I have a mat that does not meet either of my intended uses (summer hiking, winter snow camping). I'll be taking the advice I should have followed and getting a downmat.

Warm & Comfortable!I used this sleeping pad for part of a 6-month thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail. The Astro Air Lite 20R is perfect for warmer temperatures - the 'minimum temp zone' stated is 35-45 degrees and I would definitely agree with that. This sleeping pad is extremely comfortable, compact, easy to inflate and durable. The built-in pillow is nice too! Great piece of gear for any kind of backpacking or camping trip. Enjoy!

Great sleeping pad!I bought this pad for use with my Big Agnes Lost Ranger sleeping bag. It fits nicely in the bags sleeve. This pad is easy to inflate, and the valve is fool proof. Made of quality materials, and even comes with a nice stow away bag with a velcro strap. I've had no problems yet and its been on at least a hundred trips so far. Would definitely recommend this pad over several more expensive ones.

Best purchase!I just went on a multi-day hike in the Sierra mountains after roughly 15 years of limiting my hiking to daytrips with the family. Of course, I had to buy a lot of new gear. I rank my Nemo insulated sleeping pad as the best purchase of all my new gear. It was super comfortable to sleep on, packs nice a small and is ultra lightweight. I camped in below 30 degree weather and this pad kept me completely warm. (At one point, I felt the ground just to check how cold it was and was amazed at how well this was insulated.) My tent mate had a different Nemo insulated pad and he was super happy with his as well (unlike our buddies who were freezing with self-inflated pads). I was able to blow it up fairly quickly with roughly 20 deep breaths. Takes a minute to roll up small but well worth it. Hint: let just a bit of air out after blowing it up completely to provide some give for side sleepers.

ComfortableHave used this once on a backpack since I bought it. It is very comfortable, but might be a bit colder sleeping than the therma-rest I was using. This is way more comfortable but a little bit colder sleeping even though it is rated to -15 deg.

Changed my backpacking life! Side sleeper friendlyI grew up using classic self-inflating foam pads. Those were mostly fine until the last few years, when some knee, back, and hip injuries made backpacking and camping way more difficult and painful in every way. I tried an inflatable backpacking mattress from another well-known brand (let's call it Pad X) and pretty much just bounced around all night on a slick surface. It was awful. I ended up on the ground multiple times, and I'm not even an active sleeper.
I decided to give the Nemo Astro a try upon recommendation from a friend. It is incredible. I'm a side sleeper and my hip and shoulders don't bottom out at ALL. I just kind of nestle into it like in my bed at home. While laying on it, I opened the valve to deflate and it was a surprisingly long time before my hip hit the ground! My pillow doesn't wander off the end. Even though it's the same width as my old self-inflating pads it somehow seems like I can curl up on it better so it's more comfortable. I don't bounce around like on the cheaper inflatable Pad X. I haven't used it in much cold yet but I was fine in about 40 degree night with a 45 degree bag. The fabric alone is in a whole other class with a much more appealing feel, less sliding for the sleeping bag, light weight, and it seems to be durable for its weight. Easier to pack than any other pad I've used.
Cons: The valve seems a little more difficult to open/close than my older pads, but it does click in more securely once you get it. It does take quite a few breaths to inflate, but the valve makes it easier to close off between breaths so you can take breaks easily. No shorter option is available so I need to pack a few extra inches (but that's fine!). No integrated pump nor any separate external pump that I am aware of (though the valve has threads).
I can't even imagine how comfortable this would be with the Pillowtop accessory (sold separately). And check out the wide version for 5 extra inches of width. I'm sure the more expensive pads by Nemo are great too, but I hope my Astro never dies so I don't have to find out :)
Thanks Nemo...I've heard about your amazing products for a while and am so happy I took the chance.
