"Great Youth Pack. Has all the features of an adult pack." 01/06/10
I bought this pack for my nine year old daughter. She loves it. It has all the compartments that a little girl needs for her treasures. The fit was perfect, and was a lot more comfortable than her previous pack. On prior trips she complained a lot. After two days in this pack she told me she just had the best day ever. The sleeping bag compartment was large enough to fit her bag in.
"This is too good to call a "Youth" pack - how about "short person" pack?" 09/23/09
Picked one up for my 11-year old Boy Scout. Has all the bells & whistles a youth (or "short person") could want. They didn't cut corners anywhere I can find - even the sleeping-bag compartment & the draw-string divider are just like the big packs.11 weekend camps & a week-long camp later, and there are no issues, signs of wear, or "wish-I-had"'s!I'm buying another one for the 9-year old - they're big kids ;)When they outgrow them, I'm sure their aunt's will be happy for the hand-me downs!
"A terrific and serious Youth pack - get it!" 04/13/08
My 11 year old son 'crossed over' from Webelo to real boy scout recently. Bye bye indoor activities, hello camping! So he needed gear! This pack is great! It has lots of compartments, straps, zippered pouches and extras I didn't expect. It is is very well constructed and has a lot of adjustments possible which make it hang really well off my boy, even when under load. Lastly, he loves it because it is a lot like my pack - a serious backwoods pack.
"Buy it." 09/21/07
Bought this for my 8-year old and an Adirondack trip. He did lots of miles with this thing on his back and never complained once! Very well built, pockets in the right places, and fits comfortably. It's tough to find kids packs out there, but this one is a keeper.
"Buy it!" 01/16/07
I needed a backpack for my 7 y/o son for Scouting and the Mountainsmith Youth Pursuit Pack received favorable reviews. I like the many features commonly found in adult packs and it looks like it will grow with him. It is hydration-compatible and has a sleeping bag compartment with exterior compression straps - nice feature. The divider is a cinch-style closure so it is possible to use the entire length of the interior for packing if you choose not to divide the sleeping bag from the rest; this is also good for packing long objects (tent poles/sleeping pad) inside rather than attaching them outside the pack.
