"Solid with lots of space, easy to use" 02/27/12
The Mountainsmith Dog Pack is a good all-around dog pack with LOTS of space and easy to adjust, put on, and take off. The handle on top is great for tossing the pack around, or for picking up the pooch at high stream crossings. Well-designed and easy to use. Stash (key) pocket is a nice touch!
"Best saddle bag money can buy!!" 12/29/11
First off all i have to say is Rickard loves this bag! We have a black lab that is 1 year in Feb, he got it for Christmas and been out a couple times sense. Its great when he is wearing it, its almost like he thinks hes working and has a job to do. he can carry all of his own food, water, boots, doggy bags and leash and could still pack a bunch of things in. The straps secure very nicly and he can run around and play and not even notice it on his back, we got a foot of snow over night and in the morning on the hike back he was running and jumping in the snow and the bag didnt slow him down one bit. Best bag for the buck out there with great quality and decent water resistant material.
"Sizes run small" 09/18/11
Well built, but sizes run small. Gotta buy a size down. My dog is a 50 lb lab mix and he has been a med. for everything else, but for this pack the straps are synched all the way and the pack wants to slide back. This pack fits my roommates 80 lb lab perfectly though. Other than that, it is well designed with lots of storage space. I could fit 2 liters and about 5 days of food in there. You do have to balance it well so I have two bottles I keep evenly filled in each side and do the same for his food. I would say this pack is better for carrying bulk (your extra jacket or tent fly) rather than weight (water). Great material, very strong and doesn't tear.
"Let Your Dog Comfortably Carry Some of the Weight" 06/09/11
My husband and I are hiking the AT with our pitt bull terrier, Nola. In the past we had gotten her the Kelty Chuck Wagon Dog Pack and it just didn't fit her frame right. We switched to the Mountainsmith Dogpack this year and love it. She seems to wear it in comfort and still runs after squirrels with the pack on. It is not too big and bulky for her slender yet muscular frame. Haven't seen a con yet.
"Works alright" 06/03/11
You have to pack it right.. If you don't your pup either has problems walking or falls over. Fits great around her collar or harness. The support straps are soft, but strong. Carry handle is very useful over rough terrain, just pick up your pup! Also, you can't see it in the picture, but there is a small pocket inside on one side to hold small things. Has bands to control the loose straps which is nice. Our 45 pound springer fits the medium, with most of the straps all the way tight.
"Sweet ass way to have your dog pack his own shit on a hike." 03/21/11
This pack is pretty sweet. We got the medium and it fits our 65 lb pound dog perfectly. The pack held his collapsible bowls and a days worth of food and water with room to spare. Pack never came loose and the dog didn't appear to notice its presence too much as we made our way through the hike, though I could see it sag on the side where the water was stored as it was heavier than the food. We couldn't figure a way to combat this but the dog never noticed so we left it alone. Very reliable zippers and tie downs. This is a win if you want to have your dog carry his own shit on a hike instead of your skinny ass doing it.
