Is this parka machine washable? This is important to me. Thank you.

Asked by: JayJayMom2006
Hey there, Thanks for the question. The North Face does not recommend machine washing their down products as doing so can shorten the life of the garment or impact the warmth of the down itself. To clean your jacket they recommend having it professionally cleaned by a service that specializes in cleaning down.

In relationship to warmth, what is the difference between the Metropolis and the Miss Metro? Same length, fill is the same; however, MM is heavier weight than the M. What makes it heavier? I need stylish coat to survive windchill, singe-digits in Chicago.

Asked by: SgirlChicago
Hey there, Thanks for the question. The major difference in these jackets is that the Metropolis is treated with DWR on the outer shell, making it water resistant, while the Miss Metro does not contain any water-resistant treatments. The warmth is about the same on both, but the Metropolis is constructed with a slimmer upper body which saves weight in addition to the polyester lining, while the Miss Metro has a nylon satin twill lining. If you're planning on wearing this in heavy snows I'd go with the Metropolis since it has the DWR treatment.

How does the North Face Metropolis coat compare to the Marmot Quebec/montreal coat?

Asked by: Debbie922
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Actually, these coats do not have a temperature rating. In fact, most coats do not have temperature ratings. This is for several reasons. Mainly, it's because warmth is a subjective thing, unique to each person. Not only that, but there are other factors that can affect a person's (jacket's) warmth: wind, humidity, activity level, what else your wearing, etc. However, there are still helpful hints you can use to guide you. Best bet will be to check the insulation. TNF Metropolis Parka uses 550-fill power down, while Marmot's Montreal Coat uses 700-fill power down insulation. High-fill power down ranges from 550 to 900 fill. The higher the fill, the warmer the jacket. Hope this has helped you.

Is there any difference in warmth between this and Miss Metro? Also which of the two is a more fitted coat -especially slimmer coat body and not wide at the bottom -for a slim petite woman?

Asked by: Joey
Hey there, TNF Metropolis Parka and TNF Miss Metro Parka are very similar! TNF Miss Metro Parka is designed after the extremely popular TNF Metropolis Parka. The unique characteristics of the Miss Metro is that it's shinier and the has a variegated quilted body. Because one was designed after the other, they both are a regular fit type. They both also have 550-fill power of goose down and use polyester/nylon combination.

Is this coat warm in below 0 weather?

Asked by: BriBri
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! While TNF Metropolis Parka is a long down jacket where fashion meets winter, everyone has a different opinion about how cold is too cold which should be taken into consideration. The Metropolis Parka has 550-fill down, which is moderate. If your concerned about more warmth, you might consider a jacket with a higher fill and/or layering underneath for added protection against the elements.

Hi, can you please tell me if the down in this coat comes from live plucking from the birds? I'd like to find a long warm coat but don't want one that's caused a lot of pain and cruelty to animals. If not this one, do you have any other suggestions?

Asked by: Brenda
Hey there, The North Face has recently created the Responsible Down Standard to help ensure that their down does not come from any force-fed or live-plucked animals as well as to provide trace-ability on all their products. The down certified by this standard is being incorporated into their products starting with their Fall 2015 line with intention to have the full product line certified by late 2017. Patagonia also has a very high standard for trace-ability on their items, and as of their fall 2014 line, all of their products contain only 100% traceable down.

When the DWR material gets wet from moderate rain, will it soak thru to the down fill?

Asked by: Jenn
Hey Jenn, Thanks for the question. DWR will help to repel water, but it will not make a jacket waterproof, so in a heavy rain or snow the moisture that accumulates on this jacket will soak the down and remove it's loft and warmth properties. This will hold up fine in a light rain or snow.
