The Mountain Hardwear Optic 2.5 Tent is a two person backpacking tent with extra space and an expansive view. The Optic gives new meaning to “room with a view” with its adjacent, full size doors, just open wide and roll them up to the sides. The floor space has plenty of room for two people to get some shut eye at night, with room to move in the mornings. The doors expand out into dual vestibules, providing a spot to discard muddy boots before entering as well as storing your pack. The majority of the tent body is 20D Poly Knit Mesh to facilitate plenty of air flow with a 70D Nylon Taffeta 3000mm PU floor to protect against wet, dirty campsites. A great way to enjoy the outdoors, even while resting your feet.

MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR PACK FIT GUIDE and INFO

• Determine the correct pack size by measuring from the top of your hip shelf to the C7 vertebrae, which is the protruding bump at the base of the neck.

• If you think you are between pack sizes, consider how and when you will be using the pack. For example, if you will be using the pack primarily in the winter, when more and bulkier clothing is required, you may opt to size up.

• You can find Torso Range and other size information in the description FEATURES or SPECIFICATIONS for each Mountain Hardwear pack. You can also refer to the size guide below to compare the current season packs by category.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glad I bought it This is for use when motorcycle adventure riding. I have just returned from a 9 night, 5200km adventure ride into remote desert areas of Australia. The packed size is suitable for carrying across the pillion seat. Weight is OK. The main reason I bought this tent is it offers both side and end access points. I prefer the side as my usual access to the tent. But the end access really comes in handy when unpacking and packing my sleeping bag and air mattress - something I found with my previous tent to be a chore. I use use a Big Agnes sleeping bag (purchased from Moosejaw!) which has a pocket system to hold an air mattress. Inserting and inflating the air mattress from the tent side access is fiddly. Whilst the tent is primarily free standing, the fly needs to be pegged out (if used) - particularly if windy. The standard pegs are not up to the job for use in hard ground. The plastic fly clips look and feel flimsy - not sure if they'll prove durable. Poles, zips and eyelets are OK. Definitely a 3 season tent - max. The space inside the tent and in the vestibules is fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Views, Great Times! It offered super sweet views of Big Bend National Park from the comfort our campsite due to the 180 degree windows, and held up great to rainy and windy conditions.

How can we find how wide the floor space is? I want to know whether two cots will fit inside side by side.

Asked by: lucy

Hi! What is the difference between the Optic 2.5 and the Optic 2.5 VUE?

Asked by: juliafj
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out to us. The Optic 2.5 and the Optic 2.5 VUE are both solid tents...but, yes, there are some differences. The Optic 2.5 has 70D Nylon Taffeta 3000 mm PU, while the VUE has 70D Nylon Taffeta 5000mm PU. That "PU" stands for polyurethane coating, and the higher the mm rating the more water pressure it will withstand before it leaks. So, essentially, the VUE is has more coating, thus, can withstand more water. Also, while the Optic 2.5 has 20D Poly Knit Mesh for the canopy fabric, the VUE has 68D Polyester Ripstop DWR. That 'D' stands for "denier" which, essentially, means thread count. And DWR stands for Durable Water Repellent. So, again, the VUE is a bit more waterproof. Those are the main differences. Also, I should note, because of the waterproofing additions that the VUE has, it will weigh a shade more. 108 oz compared to the Optic 2.5's 98 oz. Hope this helped you out!
