"A great outer layer for Aconcagua" 03/05/12
Recently used this jacket on a successful summit of Aconcagua. If anything it was too hot for the lower sections of the mountain, but on summit day with very cold temperatures this parka really did the job. I bought an XL - I am 6'4" and 210lbs - perhaps the body length could have been slightly longer, otherwise a good fit. Even though the parka looks bulky it is very light and compresses into a relatively small stuff sack hence not taking up valuable rucksack space.
"Looks Like The One To Have On An Ultra-Cold Mountain" 08/25/11
I received the parka in a well, and carefully-packed cartoned. This parka should be the one to take on a climb up Kilimanjaro, which I would be attempting next year. I can tell by its construction, this parka would beat that I worn on Kilimanjaro earlier this year.
"WARM, WARM, Generally Awesome" 07/10/11
Used this parka on Rainier. On our summit day when the wind was kicking and the temps dropped(teens) this jacket was great to have. I never felt even a little cold when i had it on. I wear medium everything, but i bought the large for layering purposes and it fit quite well.
"THE Down Parka" 02/17/11
In my opinion, this is the down parka that should be the example that other brands try to equal. Warm, well-made, comfortable, and even, yes...stylish!Mine has held up for 5 years now and still looks new. Hard to beat! Very recommended!
"Jacket is great and warm." 02/13/11
I bought this jacket for a replacement of my North Face Baltoro. It is great and I love the waterproof down that is a plus. But it will not come close to my Baltoro in warmth or durabilty. I can't wait to try it out in the rain and cold miserable weather. If you have the extra money spend it on The North Face it will keep you warmer.
"Wonderful!" 01/14/11
I have tried several jackets in order to find the "right one". Well, low and behold, the Mountain Hardware Sub Zero SL Parka won hands down! Granted, this sucker is expensive, but it's well worth it, especially if you deal with the Midwest winters like I do. Sometimes, even when it's freezing out, I find myself sweating in this jacket. It performs great in the wind as well. There are zero cold spots in this coat due to it's baffling. I don't find this jacket all that bulky either. Even if you do, the whole idea is to keep you super warm! I can't say enough! Get this jacket! It won't let you down. The only minor negative is that it does have a tendency to leak some feathers.
"Smoking hot" 12/31/10
I got this around Christmas this year and wore it on a day that was 11 degrees with 25 mph wind, warm as can be! At 5'11", 180 I'm normally a medium in MH gear, but I was happy to have a large for layering.
"Awesome Parka for the Money --- but it better be COLD when you use it!" 12/27/10
I just received this parka in time for the blizzard blanketing the northeast. I had it on with only a base layer underneath and I couldn't get cold in it if I tried. In fact, I had to open it up a bit just running the snow blower or I would have overheated! And this with 22 degree temps and a solid 30 mph wind with gusts up to 50. I only nit I can find with it is the overlapping material covering the side pockets. I've already gotten this material caught in the zipper twice and it is quite the pain to get it unjammed. Everything considered, I'd order this again in a heartbeat. Absolutely the warmest parka I've ever owned.
"Very Warm" 12/17/10
I work right off of Lake Michigan and frequently have to be outside because I'm a teacher and have bus duty this semester. This jacket has kept me warm with windchills of -20 and actual temperatures in the single digits. The fleece lined pockets are great if you leave you gloces somewhere. The two separate pieces of velcro, one at the collar and one at the base of the hood, keeps my face warm and eliminates the need for a scarf. The hood is warm, but much larger than my head, so hat is still a good idea on really warm days.
"excellent" 12/13/10
if you want to be freezing, then don't get this bomb jacket. but for the rest of humanity who seeks warmth in sub zero temps, this is the jacket for you. the only foreseeable downside to this jacket, like most down jackets, is the durability. i wouldn't do anything too strenuous in these. the down hoodie is a great addition. keeps your head warm without additional headgear. and don't forget the pockets! fleece lined for extra warmth and softness.
