The Mountain Hardwear Men's Nilas Jacket is an alpine climber's best friend, providing windproof and warmth in one puffy jacket. The Nilas uses 100% nylon AirShield™ 2 layer fabric to protect against the cold, gusting winds of the alpine. The inside has been stuffed chock-full of 850 fill Q.Shield™ Down to trap heat to keep your body warm and will even resist moisture to protect you even when wet. The baffled construction keeps the down in place and prevents cold spots while the low-profile hood keeps the top of your head and your ears toasty warm. Complete with an active fit so you can add a hardshell on top if necessary and soft, "Butter Jersey" cuffs wrap the wrists for draft-blocking comfort. Push yourself to your cold weather limit.

FEATURES of the Mountain Hardwear Men's Nilas Jacket

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too warm! I have had this jacket for over a year now, and can say I have put it through some decent testing. Trekking through the snow in 5 degree weather while wearing this jacket I was too warm, having just a light fleece on underneath. For durability this jacket has been grabbed and scratched with many thorns, and you cannot tell, no holes, rips, or tears. My only qualm was the logo on the front of the jacket is some sort of heat pressed logo and not stitched into the jacket. So far the logos are holding up but who knows for how long, I just wish it was stitched in! Over all 4.7 stars would buy again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Technical, expensive, but amazing- baffles make it very warm, and wind resistance is top notch. Fit is for climbing fast and is perfect, core is super warm but arms not overstuffed. Fit allows for a decent base layer, if you want to use it with just a shirt consider going down a size. Serious jacket and if you use it that way way you'll love it. I have a lot of Arc'teryx and tend to go that way for most uses, but this is one of the few pieces that is better than anything they have for a fast but cold climb

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A very good, warm jacket although it is not perfect. I like it but I don't love it. PROS:,,-Warm,,-Light weight,,-I love the wrist cuffs with the thumb holes. For once, my wrists aren't exposed. If you don't want to use this feature, you don't have to. It should be illegal to make a jacket without this feature.,,- Nice, large hood.,,- Soft interior, feels good.,,,,CONS:,,-Zipper constantly, and I mean constantly, catches fabric along the zipper and jams. For Pete's sake, you would think Mountain Hardware could get this right. For this reason alone, I wouldn't take it on a serious high altitude expedition where a jammed zipper could be very dangerous to your safety.,,-No neck dam. Personal preference i guess. ,,-Zipper flap is not wide enough to stop drafts as well as it should.,,-Stitch-through design at hood leaves zero insulation where hoot attaches to shoulder area.,,-Circumference of neck area is too small, making it a bit of a choker when you have a lot of layers under it.,,-I wish it had 2 internal zipper pockets.,,-Did I mention the jammed zipper? Really frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go-to puffy I've had this jacket just over a year, now. I've used it for cold summits on 14ers and cold days on Mt. Washington, NH. It layers perfectly with my system, and comfortably fits a helmet underneath. The large internal pockets fit a Nalgene if you need it. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I've had no issue zipping up the jacket, even while wearing gloves. It excels for what it is: a lightweight parka. I'm 6'2, 180, and use a large. It's spacious enough for multiple layers underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Alpine pursuits This is the second Nilas I own. Both have worked great climbing mountains in cold weather. I´m actually taking this one to Aconcagua on december.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very warm! Just recently purchased and haven't put it through the ringer yet, but am very satisfied with the limited use around town. Has kept me very warm, almost too warm, when walking around town and hanging out at the dog park for hours on snowy days when it's been 15-20 degrees out. I think this coat will be more than warm enough on up coming climbing trips to pictured rocks, batchawana, quebec, etc. I especially like the two big interior stash pockets, the thumb hole cuffs on the sleeves, and the warmth and adjustability of the hood--fit well when tried on with my helmet. My only qualm with the jacket is the zipper. If you don't take extra care when zipping, but mainly unzipping in my experience, it will snag on the jacket material. This could have easily been avoided in the design and seems like an large oversight on mountain hardwares part. Regardless, I love the jacket so far and can't wait to truly test it out in a few weeks when belaying on the frigid shores of Lake superior.
