AXF Super DWR finish repels water 5 times longer than standard DWRs
I have been a loyal Patagonia Jacket wearer for my entire life. A few years ago I bought the Patagonia Nanuk. This jacket was very warm, but the outer shell was very rigid and whenever you sat down it felt like a life jacket in the water comint up around your neck and face region. The Downtown jacket by Mountain hardwear is AMAZING. it is beyond warm in the cold weather, and the outer shell is soft and be coat does not ride up when you sit. the pockets are perfect, and the hood is not annoying the way some down hoods are. you can even take it off if you prefer. this jacket is my favorite yet. BUY IT!
I went to college in NYC from NJ. My bus stops at 42nd street, 7th avenue and I had to walk about 21 blocks to my school. It takes about 25-30 minutes walking through Broadway even with my fast power walking.21 blocks, 30 minutes whether it's raining or snowing (back and forth, so about 1 hour walking everyday). I wasn't cold at all with this coat, this coat has plenty of "hidden" pockets and it's very, very warm. One thing to note is that the coat is very heavy. There are some coats that aren't heavy but this is definitely not one of them, it's heavy. If you don't mind the weight, get this, it's so worth it.
We just got a new puppy, and i needed to have a nice warm jacket so that when Larry has to pee, i don't be freezing when i take him out in the middle of the night. this jacket is awesome! the detatchable hood is the bees knees, and the pockets are in the right spot and well lined! i Can't wait to get some cold weather to take this coat out for a drive!
I love this jacket when the mercury sinks the downtown jacket keeps you warm. It is everything you' ll need when you are out in the dead of winter. -40 = good times in this coatI highly recommend it.
So, you really do not want to look like a powder puff when you meet with customers, and this coat is designed so you do not look like one. It is lite weight, covers the tooshie, and then some, and it stops the wind. I got this for my hubby who for months was thinking South Dakota would be colder than Florida, but Florida was actually colder than South Dakota...until he went to Rapid City South Dakota. Next, he went to Huntsville Alabama where he learned how to use a car to ice skate. Great coat for those adventures to work.
This is what I want! It is really warm and well matched casual as well as suit. And also good for urban and countryside. I do love it. I will buy one more for my Dad.
...you know what you are buying. I have read other reviews about this coat sizing small with tight shoulders etc. This is only somewhat true. This coat is a slimmer fit. PERFECT for what I wanted. I have other down jackets which are bulkier and give more of that stay puff marshmellow look. This jacket does not and and fits much better in my opinion. Would I wear this in Alaska? No. But on my 6am, near 0 degree commute to the train station? Absolutely. Its got decent loft, but dont try and compare it to a Mountain Hardware Sub zero. Highly recommended if you are OK with a slimmer fit look in a coat.
I highly recommend this jacket! I was skeptical of it at first because it is advertised as a coat for wearing around the neighborhood and the like, but I gave it a try. I wore it out with the girl and she loves it! I have also worn it out to the barn to take care of the horses and I can tell you that it feels incredibly warm (it was 12 degrees here tonight) and very durable. It repels the wind and the pockets are very warm also. I still have other coats that I will wear into the back country, but for the day to day this coat is the best!
Great insulated cold weather parka- long enough & warm enough to keep me warm on hikes, long walks with dog, etc in extreme cold conditions. Good looking & very comfortable... got the moss color, very nice-There's no way in hell you'll catch me wearing a black North Face Winter coat, this is a nice alternative, makes a subtle statement & keeps you toasty warm-wish it had pit zips for those times my pace picks up enough to churn up the heat. I wear a medium in most gear including Arc'Teryx, but the M in this coat was too tight in the shoulders, so I opted for a large which fits well... (I'm 5'10, 165 lbs, slender athletic build with slightly broad shoulders)
