Award Winner - American Alpine Institute Guides Choice Award 2013

The Mountain Equipment Men's Eclipse Hooded Zip Tee is a lightweight fleece for layering while climbing and mountaineering. The Pontetorto Technostretch fleece is light in weight and stretches so you can add additional layers over top and still move with ease. The offset zipper keeps the zip off your face while still keeping your chin toasty warm and protected from biting winds. The long length ensures the small of your back stays warm when drafts rush through, while thumb loops keep the sleeves over your hands. Wear alone in mild weather or underneath other layers, either way your upper half will be a little bit cozier. The zippered chest pocket keeps smaller items close so you won't be without.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best base/mid in its class I've used a few of these gridded fleece baselayers...this one stands out. It's just what you need and everything is well thought out. The weight and comfort of the fleece were perfect for everyday wear on a recent Himalayan expedition. I love how the zipper comes up to the side of your face on the hood--that really stands out on cold mornings where zippers have the tendency to rub my chin raw. It's also a bit longer than other competitors which makes it extremely comfortable with a pack and keeps your belly warm at dinner time. Awesome piece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection in a hooded base layer? Yes, I know, you love your R1 and wonder how POSSIBLY anything could EVER better. Well, it is possible, especially if you are a lanky dude such as myself. (positive ape index, bro!),,,,Key things I love:,,Long hem length. Tuck into your pants and never have a cold posterior. Reaching overhead all day? No longer will you midriff be exposed like a hip hop girl from a 1990s rap video.,,,,Long sleeve length. This is critical for lanksters and vertical pursuits. No longer do you need to deal with cold wrists or sleeves retracted into jackets.,,,,The Hood. It's a true balaclava, mixed somewhere in between the realm of scuba and Luke Skywalker mask thingy on Hoth. With or without a helmet it's a happy camper.,,,,The grid weight. Goldilocks would approve. Thinner than an r1, thicker than a cap4. Warm, slightly wind resistant and awesomely breathable. Often just wear it when skinning, quite happily.,,,,Be aware: It runs trim around the waist. If you have a spare tire, size up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome as a base layer I've used this layer on a number of backcountry ski trips and winter mountaineering trips over the past couple months. I couldn't be more impressed. ,,While thicker than any other base layer I've ever owned, the long zipper and ability to roll up the sleeves means I wasn't overheating, even when temperatures were up around 0 celsius. When it cools off, I'm able to zip it up, roll down the sleeves and pop up the hood. Ultimately this means I can deal with a wider range of temperatures before I need to dig in my pack for another layer. ,,I also found this was an easy piece to fit. I'm a thin 6'1" with long arms and I use a small (the fabric stretches really well). ,,The range of motion for climbing is great, I love the ninja mask, and it tucks in low below your pants. ,,I'll definitely be getting more of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Flexible Base Layer At first glance I was hesitant about picking up this base layer but after seeing a few in the wild I decided to give it a go and couldn't be happier. The number one thing about this base layer is its flexibility; usually I'm on and off with the beanie but with this guy I don't have to worry about that. If I start to over head I just drop the hood and then if I'm really cooking I can unzip it to show off my sexy chest (haha). If I'm getting cool the hood comes up which is great and cover my ears, the wind really starts blowing and I zip it up all the way so that the built in balaclava keeps my face warm. The balaclava is great and breathes really well so you don't get tonnes of condensation around your mouth. I haven't had it on any extended trips yet, but so far the anti odour stuff has performed as advertised - no stench! Definitely stoked on this product and highly recommend it to anyone spending a lot of time in the outdoors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The piece Every company has one piece that they make and it is really really good. Well the Eclipse is that piece for Mountain Equipment. This is my favorite piece and wear it all the time. You can wear it next to skin or with an undershirt. A bit expensive but totally worth it! If you are going to own one thing from ME this would be it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best base layer I've used! I've tried many different base layers and this is now my go-to for those bigger objective days; I now must have more than one. I've never had a base layer with a hood before and I'm sold on it, no need for a light hat. One less thing to carry. Also, doesn't smell terrible after minutes of use. Love the long zip and neck coverage.
