Today’s Poodle Faker magazine called the Renton "The warmest fleece you almost never heard of. Buy 2 just in case!"
I have a Renton Jacket. My girlfriend's parents got me one for my birthday. First they gave me a gold bracelet and I didn’t know what to say because I would never wear a gold bracelet but it turns out the bracelet was a joke and the Renton was my real present. If you’re wearing a gold bracelet right now please assume I mean all this as high praise.
The Renton is the best fleece jacket ever so please be sure to read everything below before deciding on a fleece. Beyond the list of idiocy I included, the features on the Renton happen to be really amazing.
FEATURES of the Men's Renton Jacket by Moosejaw:
- Super warm thanks to plush 230g fleece, special insulation layer, and a snug hem cinch cord.
- 230g and the special insulation mean the Renton is really, really warm.
- Luxuriously fully lined with a soft knit body and silky woven arms to make it easy to get on.
- I tried to think of a word to use other than Luxuriously but then decided it would be easier to just leave it and write about trying to find another word.
- The brain is probably finite.
- Two hand pockets imported directly from Cozy City which, in normal people talk, means the pockets are warm and comfortable.
- Chest pocket with a headphones pass-thru that's perfect for an iPod or some sort of stash.
- Ultra Standard Fit. That means you don’t have to be some amazing and beautiful climber to wear it.
- I tell people I climbed Rainier three times and made it to the top twice. Really, I attempted it twice and made it to the top once.
- Machine washable so you can get beers spilled all over it on Thursday and wear it to a job interview on Monday… or something like that.
- Made of the highest quality materials - 100% polyester fleece, ploy/spandex overlays, knitted and woven polyester lining and YKK zippers.
- If you get three Renton jackets before sundown tomorrow please email me and I’ll send a pizza to your house. I'm not joking.

"Very Durable, great insulator, and perfect for casual city use" 03/09/11
I use this jacket when I ski as a baselayer under my rain jacket and it works great. Very good in terms of insulation, but wearing it with just a t-shirt in below 32 degree won't keep you warm. I use this as my everyday around the city jacket and when I go out on the weekends. I am 6'2 and had to get an XL because the length in the back was too short (the XL is perfect length). I have had this for over a year and with continued casual use there are no signs of wear and tear, so the durability is great!
"Nice fleece layer for the money" 04/15/10
Can't beat MJ products for quality and price. This thing is as warm as any fleece jacket I've worn and was much cheaper. It isn't windproof like the Patagonia classic retro X, but is comparable in all other areas and packs down smaller (and it's softer!). I use this as an insulating layer under my mammut hardshell and stuffed in a stuffsack for a camp pillow. The hardshell is very athletically cut, so I needed something warm that wasn't too bulky - the Renton was the perfect combination!
"This is one of the warmest fleece jackets out there. Also, it looks better if you have a beard." 03/23/10
This jacket is great and the fit is perfect. It is a little bit tight in the shoulders and arms, but it fits me well as I'm a svelte person. So, if you're a little bulky, or have more muscle than me, which doesn't take much, then you may want to size up just one size. The length is great and it fits perfect in the waist/body area.I used it as my primary jacket all winter long. I biked in it to and from class as well as walking around town and only my hands got cold (this is irrelevant as this is a jacket review). Bottom line: If you want a warm jacket that looks good and will keep you warm no matter if it is snowing or just a chilly night outside, then this is your ideal jacket.
"Wow......I mean wow" 03/19/10
Yea..... wow I got this free much nicer then my new Pat Retro X, much nicer then that sleeping bag I bought(this jacket was my free secret gift) warm, cozy, perfect with tee shirt to bad they dont have more because I would be looking for a spare
"Seven words describe this incredible unit - Scrumtrulescent!" 03/15/10
Long after a man met a woman, the invention of the polartech like jacket was created. Not long after it was invented, I ached for one. Unfortunately, I could not find one that fit my personality. Then I walked into Moosejaw and saw the Renton - I have yet to remove my Renton from my body since that day. Amen
"Great Fleece for the Price" 03/08/10
The fleece is best described as wooly, its is thick and soft. I am 6'1" about 190 pounds with an athletic build. I bought a large and it fits well although it is a bit shorter than I would like, but I like my shirts and jackets a little long to keep my lower back covered when reaching and bending. This is not a super technical fleece, if that is what you are looking for, you might want to try something with a polartec material that stops wind and costs at least twice as much. What this is is a solid, warm fleece for average hiking and around town use. It would work great as insulation for layering. You will look like the descendants of Lewis and Clark when you wear this.
"Great Fleece" 02/27/10
The fleece is incredibly warm, with only a tee shirt underneath 30 degrees and snow was no problem. I have been wearing it pretty constantly out in Rochester NY this winter. It blocks most of the wind, about 90%. The pockets are also incredibly warm, fleece lined. Another really nice feature is that the neck of the fleece is fleece lined so when you zip it up all the way it keeps your neck really warm. One thing mentioned by others is that it is a little snug in the shoulders, true, but for a person with an athletic build it fits wonderfully. I would recommend this fleece especially for the current price.
"Thinking about a Denali? Check this out too." 02/27/10
For the money, I couldn't imagine a better jacket. It's extremely warm and comfortable, and the construction seems to be solid. I've only had the jacket for a week so far, but I haven't used another insulating layer since I got it!The fit seems a little tight in the shoulders for my build. I'm 5'8" 145 lbs. and bought a small; otherwise the Renton fits really well.
