The Men's Alpine Light Down Parka by Mont-Bell. The Alpine Light Down series is Mont-Bell's highly functional mid-layer that possesses some essential characteristics for backcountry travel: aggressive warmth to weight ratio, while maintaining exceptional compressibility. Once again by comparing the Alpine Light layer to its' fleece counterparts you find them lighter, more compact, and far warmer. The secret to the warmth of this garment is the excellent wind shedding ability of the 30-denier Ballistic nylon shell. By blocking a high amount of wind you are able to conserve the heat your body naturally produces. Cheat the icy blasts this Fall/Winter season and stay toasty whether you frequent the slopes of the backcountry, endure the challenges of a winter camp, or like to look the part around your favorite mountain town.

Disappointing...The hood ruins this jacket. First the tighteners are made of a stretchy cloth that take time to get right and then do not stay tight. I mean why not go for the spring tighteners like every other jacket? They do not add weight and do not cost anything.,,Second, because there is no volume adjuster on the back of the hood, the sides of the hood extend around your head to wear you do not have any peripheral vision at all. It seriously makes me feel like a horse on a racetrack. This jacket could have been real good if attention to detail was paid but came nowhere close. Also the waist tighteners are located at the front full zip getting in the way when you zip it.

Warm, light, and funtionalThe Alpine Light Down Parka is the perfect balance between weight and warmth. The best way I can describe this jacket, is it is like wearing a cloud. This thing is seriously comfortable and stylish. The micro fleece lined neck is a nice touch that adds that extra bit of comfort. There are also two very roomy inside stash pockets to hold your stuff, along with two easy acess zippered hand slots. I looked at a lot of different down jackets and I am glad I chose this one!

Great lightweight down jacketI bought this jacket to wear around town in the winter and as my warm layer for backpacking in the mountains. I love its versatility. Great warmth for being lightweight. It's a little bulky on me since its a men's jacket but I think its warmer and has more loft than the women's version. I also love the down hood and the fleece lined pockets. I definitely recommend this jacket!

Great lightweight down jacket!!!It is amazingly warm for how light it is. I am 6'3, and it is plenty long enough to cover my rear and seal out drafts. The hood is great. you can even secure it back while wearing it so it does not look like you are robbing a gas station.

Super Light, as warm as you want it to beSuper Light, as warm as you want it to be. I wore it hiking in a blizzard in Switzerland with a paclite shell over it. Plenty warm and never too hot. The hood is great and fits easy under my shell hood when things get really bad.

Warm and not bulky. This jacket is super warm even in 15 degree weather and 25 mph winds!! It's not bulky like other down jackets but surprisingly warm. I would buy this jacket again if it ever wears out.
