I don't typically run on hiking trails because I feel it's a great way to F yourself up but I've used these for some light day hiking and they are nice and really let you feel the trail. They are zero drop so they'll work your calfs and feet muscles but for a few miles most of us. Should be able to take it for the benefit of wearing a light shoe. Plus after a few hikes they'll tone and toughen your legs and feet. I prefer the look of the original trail glove but the guts of the shoe were left in tact for the 2nd installment with the added benefit of being a tad more flexible. Apart from hiking, these are a good choice for runners wanting the feel of barefoot but who are dealing with rocky terrain. A good general workout shoe too.
