"Great balance between casual style and rugged build."
I picked these shoes up about a year ago as the result of a search for "work shoes." To be clear, at the time, I was in law school studying environmental law, so I was looking less for steel toes than for something nice enough for the office but rugged enough for the field. I tried a plethora of different shoes, including Keens, other Merrells, Chacos; basically, anything I could get my hands on. Then, one fateful afternoon, I was out shopping with my girlfriend and spotted these.Putting them on, I immediately found that they were among the most comfortable shoes I'd ever worn out of the box. Then they passed the girlfriend test with flying colors. I bought them. It was the right decision. They remain extremely comfortable and have held up extremely well. The only shortcoming I can identify is that the support isn't phenomenal. They're essentially sneakers, and the footbed has support to match. It's enough to be comfortable, but I wear other shoes for tougher days.
Wear as church shoe, wear as casual shoe, and wear on a hike. Climb in them, run, walk, or dance a jig in them. These shoes have a slightly thinner sole that allows you to grip the boulder or rock surfaces better but it has such cushion! They are very comfortable and breath well but will also keep you warm if needed with a warm sock. Material will last FOREVER> It's one of those shoes that you love so much you buy a second pair because the style might be discontinued in future years.
