"The coat is very light and looks fairly well made however the size is bit odd"
During the unboxing, the coat was true to its reputation for being compact and light. My jacket came in a small tube like box versus a standard delivery box like from Amazon. With that said, the coat puffed back up after i pulled it out. The coat itself has little loft so you do not look like the Michelin Man while wearing it. The quality was average to above average, i think my prior North Face coats 'seemed' better but we shall see after a month of wear. So thus far, its all ups on the review, now the luke warm...I am an extra large man, i am barrow chested and of average height. The jacket is just a tad tight around the arm pits area, more so than North Face or other jackets that i arm given the XL size. The sleeve length also seemed an inch too long. So there you have it from me, the coat overall is a B+ but will need to wear it a while to be certain. The sizing is odd in that it was both tight and oversized at the same time.
As a recent transplant the South from Arizona, I had never experienced an actual winter. This jacket has gotten me through the multiple "polar vortexes" of 2014 with ease as a layer under a waxed cotton jacket. Highly recommend this jacket as it can be used as a layer (not too puffy and super light) or a jacket on its own. I ordered a small and am 5' 9" 155lbs. The fit is great, though the shoulders are a little wide, but not a huge deal. I also ordered black and was happy that the fabric wasn't too shiny. I am not a fan of the really shiny puffers. I compared this jacket to the Marmot quasar (also size small). That fit is much more athletic on the quasar, and while it fit, I liked the less shiny finish of this one.
The material is super light weight, as such it is easy to rip. The 800 fill down is great, but I sometimes wish there was a little more. I usually pair this jacket with a fleece if it real cold out. Because it is so light weight it goes great with a t-shirt if it's not too cold.
