I bought these because I was heading to the grand canyon on a twelve day self support trip so I could have a nice comfortable shell for the cold weather (January 1-12) Ending up being my go to pair of pants for anything related to cold weather. Gratned I live in the southeast and we mostly deal with cold rainy low thirties days so I expected these to wet through after a few minutes of rain but have yet to have these pants wet through. For the price I was extremely impressed with the quality, toughness, and thought put into these pants and will definitely look to marmot in the future for similar products.
Love these pants. Bought them on sale because....well, they were on sale. Ended up loving them. They are my go to for ice climbing this winter, favored over a more expensive competitors brand. Breath nicely but block the wind also. Was climbing in high teens with just a mid weight thermal base and my legs did not get cold....not even sitting in snow. Nice and stretchy for high stepping. Will be used for rock climbing, winter hiking, snowshoeing, ice skating, break dancing, and pole vaulting.
"An awesome lightweight pair of pants for almost any activity."
Marmot's done it again. From shoveling the driveway to high altitude climbs, these pants have held up. They provide an excellent range of motion while staying slim (not about baggy clothing) and let you move fast in any conditions. The waist fits well with or without a belt, and the new ankle zippers seem like a great addition to the product (I have an older design/pair).Probably the best you can do if you aren't looking for anything insulated or super-waterproof (these won't be).
I use these mainly for park ice-climbing and I love them. The stretchy soft-shell material is nearly puncture-proof and they're great for wearing crampons with, so they're also great for not-so-vertical ice travel. Happy living!
First I wasn't really convinced, I feared that the trouser might not be too thin (we had -20 C some days) - but it worked well, and I was never cold on the legs. The stretchy material is nice and comfortable to wear and the pockets have zips, which I find very useful. The cuffs fit well over ski trousers.
When I decided to buy these pants, even could not imagine how they will be comfortable and practical. During 2 years I almost did not get out of them. They just did not endure, and continuous rains and severe cold, sharp rocks, it is difficult to impassable forests. I hope that they will last for many years to me.
